    Hi,

I created an additional iPod Version (in the iTunes' File menu) starting from an original HD video that my iPod 5.5G couldn't handle. Though now that syncs well to my iPod, I'm still getting an error in iTunes every time I connect the device to my Mac, saying that the original file can't be played on my iPod.

    My questions:

    1) Is there a way of telling iTunes “stop retrieving that original file, the one that you just synced is the same and iPod compatible”?

    2) Is there a way of merging both the original and iPod file in my iTunes library, so I don't see all my videos duplicated?

    Cheers.

I use iDentify and/or Subler to set the ContentID for the SD and HD files.

Remove the two files from iTunes, update them with iDentify to the same contentID then re-add them at the same time by dragging both files into iTunes.

You should now have an "HD-SD" listing. This is both files in the same line. The ipod will sync the SD version and other devices like AppleTV will use the HD version.

I do this with nearly all our Movies so I can put kids movies on the iPad that take up much less space then the HD versions we watch at home.
