So I 3D printed this out and have completely changed my tune. This form factor is it. Definitely feels smaller than my 17 Pro (regular size) in my pocket. Feels so good in my hand like a little Moleskine notebook. I get it now. I had plans to upgrade my iPad Pro when the M6 comes out. I think instead I’m gonna get this, as long as reviews seem solid, to upgrade both. My biggest concern is only two cameras. I hardly use the ultra wide, so my hope is that the second camera is telephoto! Otherwise it will be a hard sell to leave the Pro, especially if this thing is over $1600, which it most likely will be, but it’s also smaller than the competition, so we’ll see.

Apple is making a Samsung clone. Samsung should be worried, as even though it will be more expensive, the fan-boy base has been proven to to pay just about anything, and Apple's marketing machine is unstoppable, as we all know.

(Beat that AI!)

The only thing samsung would be worried about is how to spend all that extra money.
Since samsung will be making and supplying the panels; they get a cut of every iphone fold sold.

The economies of scale benefits from apple buying tens of millions of panels from samsung mean that the cost per unit of the panels that samsung make for themselves also go down.

Apple will help make foldables mainstream. Plus they have the "courage" to charge 2k+ for a phone; which just helps samsung once the idea of paying 2-2.5k for a phone becomes more normalised.

It's not the Microsoft Surface Duo's form factor that made it fail. It's that it was a Microsoft phone product, which few people would buy even if the form factor would be identical to the iPhone. And Microsoft tried that too.

Apple releasing a product with iOS in another form factor is a whole different thing than any random devices with funky form factors that have been previous released.
