One Positive & One Negative note. 🔊🔇

Positive: I love the fact it’s, “Assembled in Vietnam 🇻🇳 .”

Negative: I hate the fact it says 2022. Makes me believe this was originally supposed to be released in November of 2022. Since we did not have an Apple event. In addition, why are we paying the year 2022 price in 2023? Shouldn’t the price be lowered since technically it’s a 2022 model?

Huh? Your money is worth less in 2023 than it was in 2022, you're lucky they're not making you pay more! ;)

This one's a bargain compared to the original!

Got mine this afternoon. They sound really nice but if I'm going to be overly picky.....they sound just a tiny bit thin and tinny to me. But I am a believer in speaker break-in so that might change after more hours of use.

The trade-in value works funny, huh? I think we already paid more. I think in 2022, it would have been $50 cheaper. Apple upped the price last minute. But I’m not complaining. I’m just happy HomePod is back. I hope it stays in the Apple product lineup. No reason to discontinue it.

Check the edit on my post to show inflation from the original's price. Still a nice product, and I'm happy it's back too. Always loved my 1st-gen.

Got it today.

It really sounds fantastic. On smart speakers, you often get the impression of a sub bass via an hyped, resonant & boxy lo-mid (150-300 Hz), Bose-style, but boy we do have genuine subs here.
“Genuine subs” can’t be physically achieved by such a small driver. It’s just an over priced not-so-smart speaker. If you want something that really ‘sounds fantastic’ get yourself an AV receiver and a decent pair of speakers.

Hey Siri, Play Jeff Beck cause we ended as lovers
Siri- Kentucky fried Chicken is 3 miles to your west , do you want me to call them

Hey Siri, Play Stevie ray Vaughn Dirty Pool
Siri, I can't find a pool anywhere near you

Hey Siri, play John Lee Hooker Crawling Kingsnake
Siri, Kingsnakes are colubrid New World members of the genus Lampropeltis, which includes 26 species

2023: The year Apple decided that shipping second generation products that entail downgrades from their predecessors was innovative.

I'm guessing this is Apple using weaker audio components while having the SoC help compensate for the disparity in quality from the original model.

The sound difference between a second generation HomePod and a HomePod mini is noticeable, but I'm willing to pay $99 a pop for a HomePod mini that I've never been okay paying $299 for a full-sized HomePod.

No matter what the logo tells you, they're still just lightweight Bluetooth speakers but the good news is that they will break-in your ears after a few hours; and you forget that hi-fi ever sounded any different.

Would love to hear real world opinions on the responsiveness of the S7 chip vs. the A8 chip after some hands in time.

The problem is you label them "bluetooth speakers" but they are not. Since they use wifi and can play lossless tracks, that's a bit too trollish of you.

But I've got 14 days to decide if I want to keep them. I have a pair of wired Audioengine A5+ speakers for my desk. These don't seem to be an upgrade soundwise. They do take up less space I'll give them that.

I can appreciate the idea of iterations of product enhancements, but there is little to cheer about with the new system. Once again, the device is way to expensive. $300 for a speaker is a little insane. I love my little mini Home Pod, but it had a better pricepoint if not a sub standard speaker. Why not make the Homepod 2 around $200 - they would fly off the shelves - I think this will be more like the original Homepod fiasco, where Apple is stuck with a lot of inventory from an overly expensive, but quality speaker. Listen to your people - gather feedback and build the thing we want.

Share your system for the same cost as a pair of these with ATv. I haven't heard the new ones but my several original pairs connected to new ATv's sound pretty dang good. I don't pretend to have golden ears nor golden eyes and roll my eyes at talk of subtle differences in many reviews. But that's me😋

Actually it’s my understanding that there were components in the old one that would overheat and fail if the speaker was driven too hard. This was going too cost Apple a small fortune in replacement cost.

I don’t understand the $300 a piece either.

Fewer tweeters, fewer mics, and a shorter power cable... but overall it's largely unchanged. Sounds like a Tim Cook special "upgrade". Does it come with a Tim Cook baseball card with the smirk? Not to be confused with the "employees are giving out my secrets" frowny face.
First time I’ve seen his smile scowl called out, or smowl.
