IMO, ease of use hasn't been Apples forte for quite some time.

Eh, I beg to differ. I mean, for myself, a seasoned tech nerd who started in the very early 90's, there's no issue, but I've seen older people take to Apple products much easier than the comparable Windows & Android devices..

My mom for example, in her early 60's, when she got an iPhone 6 as her first smartphone 2 years ago, actually pretty much figured it out on her own, and she's not really that techy, she only used a windows laptop as a computer to browse the internet and not much beyond it for about 10 years prior, so she started her journey into computers late in her life.

When her best friend also in the same age bracket, was given a new Android phone as a replacement for her broken "feature phone", she couldn't figure it out one bit, and my mom couldn't find her way around Android OS.

Could we be seeing the difference between the refresh rates of the dot projector and the recording? Sort of like flickering tail lights in car videos.

On topic: To me, things like Clips are novelties that soon wear off. New feature? Oooooo, I'm gonna try that out. 2 weeks later, feature has virtual cobwebs hanging from it. The initial downloading fury and subsequent fall on the charts mirror the sentiment I'm expressing.

oh yeah, the flicker didn't even occur to me, just the visibility of the source. Fun! :)

I'd probably use clips more if I wasn't already using snap anyway. I have enough tools there and I can save out and use elsewhere too so clips became superfluous quickly when I first got it but not because I grew tired of those types of tools quickly but just because it was redundant. Now with some of the 3D mapping stuff being introduced to better layer backgrounds they could be on to something, extend that to 3D Sense filters (like what Snap promised us in the keynote but hasn't delivered on) and I could get hooked and make that primary for many things.

I don't have a big point here, I just think with some audiences (myself in them) it *could* have staying power.

we now have a zero attention span and I think thats the problem.

I used to spend hours in motion making something look cool. now if I can't fly the app instantly its not happening and this is the problem with the clips app.

Also selfie scenes which is a cool idea and lots going on in the background ( very impressive ) but still fails in my eyes as the edges don't look that great and reminds me of photo booth and everything else they demo very well but does not work like that at all in a real use. Perhaps studio lighting would help and a green screen and ...

Guys.. try this. Use the background, record mic audio. And record the scene as is through screen recording. Looks so much better and fuller, and it's not limited to a square :)

Also turn that compass calibration on for the full effect. I didn't care for it and now I really think it's awesome since it opened it up a lot and makes it functional.

I like this app. I take tons of videos and pictures of my daughter. And this is pretty useful to stitch together a custom "memories" thing. I have only played around a little bit, but liked what I see. If there are UI improvements they would be welcome.

Is the aspect ratio still square? That is useful for sharing videos on mobile, but no reason why it shouldn't be full screen if I wanted it on a TV.

Not quite sure I understand where the hate is coming from for this app. I actually prefer using this to iMovie on my iPhone when I'm creating vlogs for Youtube on the go. The only thing I would like to see are proper screen transitions, that seems to be all that its lacking.

Agreed. That seems like a long time ago. I literally get angry trying to figure out some of flat UIs they've come up with or that they've encouraged third party developers to come up with

Found the culprit: Make sure Compass Calibration is ON! Or Turn OFF then ON if already on.

Excellent. Thanks. I found the compass behaving badly, but never would have found that setting... Even Setting‘s search field doesn‘t o_O
