That would require you to use the iTunes Store app (which I don't). So that's a step backward from how the Shazam app works now
If you ask Siri, the song is saved to a list in the iTunes Store app (top right corner menu). I assume the same would be the case here.

Exactly
This isn't a very useful location to store a list of songs you'd like to play in Apple Music, especially since Apple is trying very hard to push people away from iTunes and onto their streaming service. Shazam links requested songs to a playlist you can play right from Apple Music and it's super convenient.

That sucks. Totally pointless. Guess it's yet another iOS14 feature I will continue to be using the old way (shazam widget on far left swiped page)

That’s so problematic :-(
I think also that launching iPhones and iOS updates so often together (release cycles wise) forces the iOS release to work no matter what with the flagship phone release, potentially hurting older ones. More likely to happen if hardware components happen to deviate a bit on the newer ones.

Apple’s beta site is funny 🤡
It still says:

“Not ready for iOS 14? Enroll in the public beta for iOS 13 updates by downloading the iOS 13 configuration profile here.”

Nothing like that that's part of iOS 14.2 (or necessarily will be part of iOS 14). Here are the details of the existing beta for iOS 14.2:
[automerge]1601390823[/automerge]

Looks like that will be something that comes with the new phones.

I believe retracting iMessages was part of the betas released after wwdc but never made it into final.

I can't say that I recall that. I think there might have been some rumors of something like that potentially being in iOS 14 before iOS 14 details were announced, but that's more or less it.

It isn’t entirely impossible that this was simply a rumour at the time. The feature is highly missed though to bring things on par with whatsapp.

Does this require the Shazam app to be installed to work? If I just leave it on, will it drain battery significantly? I have the equivalent of this sitting in my Mac menubar and it's a fun little surprise to see it show what song is playing sometimes when I sit at a coffee shop (pre-Covid) or play a YouTube video

Shazam app not needed.

WHen you enable it in the control panel, it only stays on long enough to identify a song (or long enough to give up) after which it turns off.
