Completely pointless, especially with OSX
My 27” 4K is jaggy and doesn’t even run at full resolution. Just give a 5K 32”, how hard is that???
Does anyone think Apple is going to re-enter the consumer display business with a cheaper and less high end ProDisplay XDR offering?
Asking because I need one for my Mac and would prefer an Apple display, but Apple just don't want to cater to those needs anymore.
The clamp is the best part about it.And what about a stand if you don't want it clamped to the back or side of the desk?
No, we need more 8k panels in ultra wide size. 48”.We have a plethora of 4k options already.
We need more 5K monitors.
The problem is there is absolutely nothing on the market anywhere that compares with apples retina displays, so for all of us who are looking for display options for the desk, but are used to apples retina displays, there’s basically no option out there that is satisfactory...and that is a difficult fact to accept. So I’ll end up watching a review like this only to be disappointed, and knew I would be disappointed before I watched it.Pretty weak review, but if you want a decent hardware review MacRumors is never gonna be the place to go. You never see MR tell you not to buy a product, no matter how bad it is. Everything is always "solid" and they'll always look for something good to say, no matter how poorly the item does at its core purpose.
For displays, there are many other sites that'll go far more in-depth and are going to give it to you straight, in addition to having far more knowledge and other products to compare to.
Well they don’t prefer it, they just don’t know any better. Neither did we before we started looking at Retina displays. This is a problem for me now because I want to create other options for myself and there is nothing good enough. If I look at a display like this all I can think is that it looks blurry, because it does.Mac users are used to pixel doubled retina output, and justifiably so. Retina rendering eliminates pixelation.
I think the reason why PC users have largely ignored retina, that is, 27" QHD (2560 by 1440, or 109 pixels per inch) for gaming and 31.5" 4K (3840 by 2160, or 140 pixels per inch) for productivity, is that PC users seem to prefer using non-scaled native resolution.
140 pixels per inch makes UI elements a bit small but still usable. Let's take 16" MBP for instance, which has native resolution of 3072 by 1920 (226 pixels per inch). It scales various output resolution to native resolution to give more screen real estate. Its "More Space" resolution of 2048 by 1280 yields 151 pixels per inch and "Default" resolution of 1792 by 1120 yields 132 pixels per inch. So using LG UltraFine Ergo at 4K resolution should be very usable for many people.
Like what?A pretty pointless and awful monitor choice when theres so many better options.
I have the same 2014 5K iMac. I had the display go bad (severe afterimage ghosting) — but thankfully within AppleCare so I got it replaced free. I know subsequent iMacs are brighter and have a larger color gamut, but to this day I absolutely love sitting down in front of this display.I just don’t understand the display market at all today. I’ve been using a 27“ 5K display since 2014 in the form of the iMac. After 6 years this panel is still infinitely better than most of what comes to market, at any price.
I have been looking at the 27" edition of this monitor, but the lack of MacOS integration is sad.
I got the new Samsung G7 32 inch gaming monitor a couple of weeks ago and it is the best monitor I have owned. 240hz with MBR. Great for gaming, good for photo editing in RGB mode. This monitor hits all the right point for me. When you are playing Doom Eternal at 240hz it is pure gaming pleasure. Works great with my 2019 MacBook Pro 16. Make sure you get a good USB C to Displayport 1.4 to make it fly. I use StarTech cables for years and they always are great. I got it on sale for $649.00 on Amazon. Was going to get the G9 but it was hard to get and also thinking about when I am going to use it for a PS5 the 16x9 is a better monitor so you do not get black bars on the sides of the image on the monitor.
Ya, this. I never realized how pixelated and crappy all my previous monitors looked before sitting in front of a 5K display. After doing so for a while, it becomes very difficult to downgrade, because everything which used to look great, suddenly looks terrible and full of visible dots and artifacts my brain never bothered to registerWell they don’t prefer it, they just don’t know any better. Neither did we before we started looking at Retina displays. This is a problem for me now because I want to create other options for myself and there is nothing good enough. Seriously? I have a 34” LG ultrawide curved and love the size. Too bad it doesn’t come in 4K or 5K equivalent resolutions. I don’t get why OEM’s keep high-res monitors so small.
No, we need more 8k panels in ultra wide size. 48”.
Basically 2 4K displays in the same panel.
4K is more than good enough for a 24" display or smaller. And it has nothing to do with "4K content". This isn't a TV.Can't believe comments in this thread...4K is not good enough? There is hardly 4K content out there.
There was a time when 1080P was eye piercing sharp!
how much is enough?
Baby steps? iMac has had a 5K panel bundled with a whole computer at a reasonable price since 2014.Baby steps. 5K monitors are nowhere near the affordable range for your everyday consumer.

I know, I agree with you. I'm saying the industry outside of Apple hasn't managed to deliver a single interesting display at a reasonable price in 6 years.I was talking about a standalone display. Let me know if you can find a 5K monitor at a reasonable price.
Truth. Which I'm sure contributed to Apple deciding to disable Target Display Mode. "Oh, hey, that's a really nice monitor in a cool stand! it comes with a free computer I'll never use, but that's fine."I know, I agree with you. The best value display on the market is STILL the iMac 5K, 6 years later.
