Well, the issues they run into and their projections are pretty much directly connected!

It wouldn't be smart to just ship to the first people who ordered for the TREG testing. Odds are most of them wouldn't have done any reporting back. BTW, you may not have been one since they only chose a couple hundred and they sold over ten thousand in the first two days.

10,000 in the first two days? Seriously? An untested device? I doubt it.

Why? People worldwide saw the initial reports on it. The single biggest time for pre-ordering would be in the first days after those reports. Is 10k hard to believe? I don't think so.

Meanwhile: I got a call last night from the owner of WayTools, about a problem I encountered during my testing. It is believed it was caused by a hardware issue discovered by another tester and that problem has already been fixed - I just don't have the newest version. So they are sending me one and I'll send this one back so they can confirm it is the known problem.

He also said that while there are certainly tweaks to be made to the firmware, it is hardware that is presently determining when it will ship. They have started applying some of the HW fixes, those they are sure about. One (or more - don't know) are believed to by fixed, but they are still testing and waiting for reports from the second group of TREG testers who have the never versions to make sure before making production changes.

While this hardware process is going on, they'll continue to tweak the firmware, but unless someone finds a big problem, it won't affect shipping.

So if they are still finding hardware problems, it means that supposed inventory of finished Texblades they had already a year ago is garbage now, and once they have fixed the hardware problems, production will start at absolute zero.

Still, Waytools promises people who order now that they will get their Textblade in mid June. o_O

nope. They said they've already been making the hardware fixes they feel very confident about and will apply the other(s) once the have tested them more. They have not found any new hw problem for awhile now.

I will still wait for a released version before even considering ordering it again. It's a neat idea, but I'm tired of the idea of paying for something then waiting for two years before it ships, if ever.

Edit: erm, meant to mention the Amp case who did something very similar. I don't expect either device to ship commercially.

Sounds reasonable to me - though it isn't close to two years yet. I normally don't buy things like this before they are actually shipping. This was very unusual for me - as in, this is the only time I've ever done it.

Before it actually is ready for retail release? I think two years is being optimistic.

Anything is possible, but I see little reason to think it will take another 9 months. Only if it turns out the new tech simply isn't consistent enough to ever be solved. Even now, with what I know using it, I still opt for this device rather than my Apple keyboard.

I finally gave up and cancelled my order on the second anniversary of my order date. :-(

Makes you wonder how many years should go by before they automatically send refunds. They are basically a zero interest savings account at this point.
