Dan, the camera button is positioned like a digital camera. You hold the phone horizontal like a camera ... and your finger fits perfectly, just like a normal digital SLR. It's not designed for portrait photos ... just like a DSLR. Surely this is evident in the trigger controls and positioning and half press features. Just like a real camera!

Thanks, MR. I appreciate this article—mulling jumping to a 16 Plus from my current 13 Pro. Would like a bigger screen this year, but keep asking myself if I actually need all the things the Pro models offers (including the high price). I'll miss 120Hz, but it's hardly the end of the world. The rest all feels super unnecessary if you're not using your phone as your sole video content creation device, which is such a vanishingly small audience.
I’m probably one of the few that went from a 14Pro to a base 16.

Try turning setting reduce frame rate to on for a while and see how you feel. It’s a bit more aggressive in limiting the refresh rate than the 16 is so it’s not 1:1 but close.

I’m happy with my decision 24 hours into it. The only thing I can’t stand is with the lenses being vertical now, it’s so stupidly wobbly on a flat surface it’s like they didn’t even think about it during design.

I hope with a case it is less wobbly

Why all this hate for a new camera control, it is nothing like the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar replace the physical function keys, the issue was the previous control button were removed. You lost tactical feedback with the Touch Bar replacing the physical function keys.

Apple has not removed the previous camera controls. If you lack the ability to use this new button, then you can continue to use the old screen controls for the camera. They are still all there.
