Functionally, I loved the old Siri Remote, too (when it worked — I seemed to have accuracy issues with finger positioning on the trackpad and it would do weird stuff which happened with multiple remotes). I just think the design was far from practical for its setting; it was annoyingly sensitive. I think you'll find much much improvement with the new one. I know that I hadn't expected to like it as much as I do.Good to know - but this was always available on the old remote as well.
Always boggled my mind that people didn't know all the things the old remote could do. You could skip/forward back 10s and also a touch (without a click) would allow you move around just like the arrows on this new remote as well. I always thought the old remote got way too much hate.
That said - this design looks good. I'll be picking up one of the new ATVs... and if I like the remote I'll probably replace all of my remotes (have ATV 4ks on 3 other TVs).
so many complaints here about the old Siri remote, everyone hailing the new one, and now you need support docs and video tutorials on how to use it, eg fast forwarding a video ... this is just hilarious to watch.
I do have 2 ATV 4k in the house, original Siri Remote and neither my wife nor I lose it or are complaining about its functionality, but everyone is different ...
Some people just can’t wait to find something to complain about in literally every instanceDoes this thing have backlit buttons? If not, epic fail.
Not “no one”. I, for one, would be quite happy if they’d added Find My functionality at the cost of needing to recharge the remote more frequently.Justification is that noone would want to use their remote battery to constantly ping Find My. I've owned an Apple TV 4K for 3 years and I think I charged the remote twice.
Have you looked into HDMI-CEC? It has many brand names. Activate it on all your devices and away you go. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205225Can this be used as a truly universal remote?
TV - is my monitor
Receiver - is my audio source.
All can be controled by the new remote so I can ditch my Logitech Remote?
If you could charge it once a year instead of once every 1.5 years, but could precisely find it if lost, would you take that tradeoff?Justification is that noone would want to use their remote battery to constantly ping Find My. I've owned an Apple TV 4K for 3 years and I think I charged the remote twice.
You don't need it. The old and new Siri remotes have so few buttons that you can easily operate them without looking. That is one reason why I always liked the old one (I often watch on my projector in a darkened room), and the new one improves on the few flaws it had.Does this thing have backlit buttons? If not, epic fail.
You get used to the new position quickly. The mute, and the play/pause buttons need to be switched around.
Uhm, there is a home button. And who needs fast forward when you have the much better scrubbing function?Apple should have made the remote even bigger with even more buttons. In particular basic operations such as home screen or fast forward should have had their own dedicated buttons.
It only has a few buttons as it is. I figured out what everything did in like 10 seconds and it now is all operated by touch without having to look at it at all.Does this thing have backlit buttons? If not, epic fail.
Uhm, no there isn't. There is a back button which is stuffed with various functions including home. I want a dedicated home button.Uhm, there is a home button.
I do. And Apple agrees with me that there should be ff because they included the functionality but hid it in a combo. And who needs fast forward when you have the much better scrubbing function?
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But I want more buttons and fewer button/gesture combos.I definitely do not want more buttons. The small number of buttons makes the remote so easy to use without looking.
First thing I did was put on some felt pads (didn't have any rubber ones lying around). I added 4 feet on the bottom corners, so you can use it on a flat surface without it rocking around due to the curved back. I put a felt pad on the mute button, as it's in the exact position that the play/ pause button used to be. I kept hitting mute. Much more usable for me now.I had one of those silicon Elgato cases for my previous ATV remote. Not only did it help with orientation iof the remote in your hand, but it helped keep it from sliding off the wooden arms of my chair. Any idea if there is a similar product for this new remote?
The top right button under the scrub wheel is a home button. You can set it in the Apple TV preferences under Remote to go to "home" instead of to the Apple TV app.Uhm, no there isn't. There is a back button which is stuffed with various functions including home. I want a dedicated home button.

I put a felt pad on the mute button, so I don't keep pressing it.The mute, and the play/pause buttons need to be switched around.
