seems like it should be possible if any app can now just have a "add to siri" button. This changes everything and the feature I've been most excited about in years.I hope this means I'll finally be able to use Siri to control my Nest thermostat?
Waste of time. The more smart “features” that are added to phones, the more of a distraction they become. It’s endemic.
Look at the world around us today... count how many people are dicking around on their phones compared to how many people are just simply observing the real world. The next time you are hanging out with friends, try not to pull out your phone. Bet you can’t...
A lot of people are missing the bigger announcement: this is a new Siri framework that's infinitely scalable. It no longer relies on Apple releasing specific Siri APIs for niche app types. Any and all apps in the world's biggest App Store can integrate any of its functions with Siri. Siri itself will be using this new framework, replacing outdated and constrained frameworks that have been around since before Apple acquired Siri.
This looks very promising. I wonder how long it will take devs to implement the changes or 'shortcutability' on their own app side. This could, down the line, actually also let iOS devices work with google home - just by sending and remote controlling the Google Home app.
I don't think you read the post which actually says mostly the opposite of what you claim to get out of it.I think this is a cop out if anything from what Siri was originally intended to be. Imagine if somehow you lose your workflow. Due to privacy, Apple needs you to provide Siri more data about you in order for it to function somewhat.
There's nothing new about this other than you providing more manual labor than normal to help Siri learn.
I just want Siri to be able to turn off and on the flashlight
It looks like you still need to manually send the message? Is there an option to have it sent automatically? Without leaving Siri too?
The only way for this to work at the moment would be to assign the above tasks to a simple phrase, such as “Hey Siri I’m home” which isn’t really a bad compromise if you have hands free Siri.
Why are these renders always on iPhone X now? The majority of iPhones in usage today still have a home button.
Would this allow siri to automate non-home kit compatable smart home devices via their 3rd party app? i.e. smart locks?
I understand.... I’m just saying without developer app support and integration, how much use are we getting out of these AI services. Hell, google can do some amazing things, but without developer support & intergration, were limited only to what google thinks is important to us. Even the company Samsung bought, before it was Bixby (Viv) said that there AI usefulness, will depend on how many developers integrate it into there apps......& Samsung has no developers even considering Bixby. Just....wait...and see. When IOS 12 is released, you’ll see what I mean.Bixby already does more than Siri, which in all honesty, is not saying much. Lol.
Read the link, Apple will never be on that level of AI. Siri's been around longer than Bixby, yet it's the worst DA around.
In some cases, it's already there with no changes required by the app developer, as this takes advantage of user activities (which are also used for stuff like the 3D Touch menu).
Does anyone know whether it will be possible to invoke these custom Siri shortcut commands on a HomePod?
It would be a serious limitation if it relies on an iPhone/iPad hearing and running the shortcuts.
