Add me to the list of people who have had it activate while washing dishes. It's not a deal breaker, as I do think I was previously underestimating how much time I should spend washing my hands, but it does make me wonder what other motions might erroneously trigger this feature and how they might be able to control for those in future software updates.

It’s a very good idea but when I prepare meals or wash dishes and I open the water often it starts each time
And that is annoying . It would be nice to have it only on command,
Siri I ’m washing my hands 🙌

I have to admit I thought this feature was silly, but after using for several weeks now, I’ve realized that even though I thought I’ve been washing for 20 seconds at a time, I was going much faster. My “happy birthday” x2 must have been sung at double speed.

I wouldn't mind the feature if I could actually get it to work.. really not sure what exactly it needs to trigger.

I have had a few false positives while washing dishes, but they always cancel automatically. It doesn't bother me. I suspect my dishwashing technique doesn't produce the kind of sustained hand motion the app is looking for.

Since I wear my Watch on my non-dominant hand, that hand is generally used for holding/steadying dishes while my dominant hand is vigorously washing. Wearing a Watch on your dominant hand could conceivably make a big difference in this regard.

Overall, I find this to be a cute feature, but not earth-shattering. I was already used to counting to 20, so learning to trust my Watch to start counting automatically took a small mental effort. The taptic is a bit weak for my taste. I think that all the tactile feedback from hand washing pushes that taptic into the sensory background.

I find this feature useless. Never works in my bathroom sink where I wash my hands; but if I wash dishes in my kitchen sink it activates.

Funny thing is - it also activates when I mow the lawn.

Perhaps it activates when it hears a certain droning, constant frequency?

Interesting how some people can activate it while doing dishes. Do you wear your watch on your left or right hand?

This happens to me all the time. I wear it on the left hand, as I am right handed.

I enjoy the feature, but sometimes it is late to turn on. I'm washing the hands and about 8 seconds in it finally turns on. I think it adjusts for lost time, but it's just interesting in it's inconsistency. Despite that, it is a useful feature.

It was a hit and miss for me. But the number of times it did work I realized that I usually wash my hands for longer than 20 seconds so I turned it off. Probably saves battery.

It was confusing when it did work though as it started timer from whenever it thought I started washing hands, and would never really start for full 20 seconds. I think from the time I open the faucet. I think the timer should start from when it thinks I'm rubbing the soap.

I'm on the verge of disabling it because it always activates when I'm washing the dishes which ends up making my average time like 6 seconds each day.

If they can fine tune the code to lower the chance of false activations I'd probably re-enable. It's a cool feature IMO. But also probably not something I need enabled all the time. A couple of weeks of training myself to wash my hands longer is probably all that's needed.
