On 10 November 1775 the U.S. Marine Corps was established. We Marines take a lot of pride in our traditions and have lot's of respect for them and the Corps. Today is a very special day for all Marines and one we never forget.

Happy 240th to my fellow U.S. Marines out there!

The Commandant & Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps put together a very nice birthday message this year.

Happy 240th Birthday Marine Corps, and happy birthday to all marines serving, and past.

Thanks for posting this, @SandboxGeneral - it is good to have been reminded of it.

When working at US embassies overseas always enjoyed this day because the Marines throw a great party.

Do they now? How interesting, and nice to know.

For that matter, I had always thought that parties thrown overseas by the US military were 'dry'…..

The Marines assigned to US embassies were allowed to have 'wet' parties back in the day, do not know how that applies now.

Yes, well, embassies, now, that may be an entirely different matter. Different rules of engagement may indeed apply.

However, most European militaries have a relatively enlightened approach to this matter - as do virtually all European embassies!
