The start of the 2nd computing revolution.
January 24, 1984
... and many more.
Happy Birthday, Macintosh. I'm going to go hump my MacSE.
Nothing quite like a Mac, is there?
Here's the commercial.
It was quite a change from what the IBM PC was at the time. No real file system, much more ram then its competition. A 3.5 inch drive (when everyone was on 5 1/4) a gui out of the box when ms dos had none
Still an intense advert after so many years. Just put Steve Ballmer's face on the screen and nothing is lost from the meaning. Except the advert would be intense *and* hilarious.
I think we're in for a treat during the Super Bowl too!
I can't say the release of the Mac registered with me on that day. In fact it was another 10 years before I first noticed the existence of the Mac when I was looking to buy my first PC. I was then advised not to go with Apple because they were too expensive and nothing worked with them.
It was another 10 years after that when I eventually got my first Mac.
My iMac just celebrated its second birthday tis past Jan. 17th.
Twenty-six years after the revolution, MS won the desktop wars, Apple almost went extinct and then came back stronger than ever. Apple is now the more monopolistic company, yet MS and Apple also work together in friendly but fierce competition. There's more power, speed and storage in a cell phone today than there was in a whole computer back then. And Superbowls are now played later than January 24.
You have fun with that.
Today Is The 26th Anniversary of The Macintosh; video of Steve Unveiling it in 1984
if you haven't already seen it, take a look at this. That was probably one of the best moments of Steve's life. That unveiling had so much energy and excitement. I have to wish the Macintosh a happy birthday, and am in awe as to how far Apple and the rest of the industry has come since January 24, 1984.
Steve Jobs seems snappier.
Seriously though, Happy Birthday Macintosh!
Not only have computers changed, but, Steve has also!
MacBook Aluminum 13" Unibody
Happy birthday Mac.
Somebody sell me a 13" MB_Unibody Aluminum for $650CAN and I'll be so much happier!!
TO be honest you must have to marvel at how awesome that unveiling really was ... display output to a HUGE screen projection, along with no hiccups! Today if it failed, a backup server would've picked it up and took over without a hitch ... then it HAD to work!! Even a backup under the desk would take about 2minutes to retry.
You're right, computers have beards now
Anyhow, happy anniversary Macintosh!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MACINTOSH!
You have made this world a better place.
