That's great. I went portaging in Algonquin 6 years ago, but I haven't been there since because this is actually the first time I've lived in Canada since then. ;) I may be moving out soon, so I'll have to enjoy Toronto for as long as I can while I'm still here. :)

Oh, for Canada Day: We went to the free Constantines concert at the Harbourfront Centre, which took place at 9:30 PM. Before that, we were hanging out in the area, which has been completely re-done. It's quite a fantastic place to go now. :)
We also went to the distillery district, where all the breweries and artists are. :) Most things were closed though, so we just ate food, walked around, sat outside at a patio bar beside the lake, and chatted a lot with my friends.

Free Constantines show? Nice, they're solid.

I'm trying to go see The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sarah this Sunday at the Hollywood Bowl (they're opening for Death Cab For Cutie.... I don't care about them though), but the show is sold out. I'm going to keep trying to get tickets though.

I haven't been to Harbourfront Centre in a couple of years.... have they redone it since then? Or are you talking about the wood boardwalk on the lake with the outdoor restaurants, the little amphitheatre, the area with ethnic food behind it, and the ponds with kiddie rides? We used to go blading there and we've rented bikes there as well.

The Distillery District is awesome, but it has weird hours.

Check out the Bier Market and Fionn McCool's on the Esplanade, two fun places.

Sounds like you had a great Canada Day! I did what I said I would do- bbqed, beer, and flag over the balcony.

I'm looking forward to the 4th, should be fun here.

Haha, yes, that's it. It's new to me though. :D

When I left, there was no Dundas Square, Dundas in general was in shambles, and the Harbourfront was a bit of an embarrassment, considering how it should be prime real estate. I used to take the bus from Toronto to Hamilton (I went to Mac), and from the bus, all we'd see near Skydome (or "Rogers Centre"?) was a lot of empty land, and old rusty CN Rail crap littered about. That was up until 2003 though.

Anyway, it was great to see the city look so much better. The Constantines played for over 90 minutes, and then there were some awful fireworks. :) Then I followed up the concert with a sausage. Mmmmm.....street meat.

Happy Canada Day 2010!!

Happy Canada Day everyone. I can't wait for the fireworks tonight!! :D

What a contrast. Reading this thread brought up great memories from last year. :)

Unfortunately, I moved out of Canada (again), and didn't celebrate. I went to work like normal.

I'm always proud to be Canadian, so I guess that's something. :)

Working today, but going on holiday tomorrow. Wife is home gewtting ready for holiday. We're actually gonna experience the 4th of July for ourselves in the US. Not on purpose mind, just incidentally.

HAPPY CANADA DAY everyone!!:D

Car show, BBQ hamburger for lunch, watch the cannons and skydiver at noon (it's a local thing). Listen to CBC (R3 seems to have taken over R1 today). Local beer later.

I love the fact that Abstact and Surely actually got a portage conversation going on a tech site. Way to go, eh?.

Happy Canada Day to all! :D

^^^^ Take off, eh! Abstract and Surely got a portage conversation going. :D

Unfortunately, I'm too crazy busy to do much celebrating during the day, but tonight I might hit up the House of Blues to see Sloan play.

Happy Canada Day!

For the non-Canadians who may be browsing this thread.... here is a link to the webcam that shows Parliament Buildings in Ottawa. The lawn in front has become a place for Canadians to celebrate (and mourn) events of national importance. CBC is reporting 70,000 people there today.

For today they have set up a large stage right in front, where there will be live music playing all day. The Queen will make an appearance at some point (This is her 7th Canada Day in Canada - Long Live the Queen!)... note the red carpet.

If you look at either side, you can see the white that is the last of the winter snow that is just about done melting off of the tulip beds. ;)

Happy Canada Day....
