I was one of those who used 3D Touch extensively and was quite afraid of what losing it would do to my experience. Much to my pleasant surprise, I hardly miss it. Haptic Touch does nearly everything 3D Touch did nearly as well as it did. I’m honestly impressed at how well they implemented what is essentially just a long press.

I agree. I used to use 3D Touch quite a lot and was a little bit disappointed it was being deprecated. But haptic touch isn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. And it still works great for me with text editing.

Unfortunately it doesn’t do a variety of things that 3D Touch does/can do, nor does it do various things as well and/or as fast as 3D Touch.
What are the features you’re missing most?

I liked 3D touch. Haptic touch is ok. Yes its laggy. Yes I prefer 3D Touch. Am I sad about it? Nope. Its not that important for me. The only 2 ways I used 3D touch for I already got used to it on my Pro Max.

I like the haptic touch. I never actually noticed 3d touch at all. Maybe that means it worked so seamlessly in the background that I wasn't aware of it, but I think the haptic touch is fine too.

I find it easier for launching shortcuts from the app icon. Plus I couldn't do that before on my iPad. I'm fine without 3D Touch.

Agree. I really like 3D Touch and use it all the time. I find haptic touch a bit worse, but if I have to choose between 3D Touch and more battery life then battery wins every time.
Not sure why it would be one or the other really.

I don’t mind haptic touch but I prefer 3D touch that’s for sure. I stayed on 12.4.1 just so I would have full functionality. I wish they would allow haptic touch to be disabled in iOS13 so people who wanted to keep 3D Touch the way it was in iOS12 could do so... This will be the first time I haven’t updated immediately when a new version of iOS drops, we’ll see how long I can hold off as I do like a lot of the new features offered in iOS13

It’s much worse experience for me. Rearranging icons is much worse and many times I have to press more than once to activate. 3D Touch was so much better in my opinion. I’m bummed it is gone. If removing 3D Touch decreased the thickness of the screen which allowed a bigger battery, then it is a worthwhile trade off.

Not sure how much the minute difference in screen thickness would make in relation the battery. Not to mention that the new phones are thicker anyway.

The biggest complaint I read about haptic touch is the delay with the response trying to invoke an action. 3D Touch, I found it to be fairly instantaneous with what you were trying to execute. 3D Touch was my favorite feature with the iPhone 6s when it was introduced, haptic touch I think will continue to expand and improve, but 3D Touch for those who actually understood how to use it, appreciated everything it had to offer _and_ it’s benefits over haptic touch.

Well, the best thing about Haptic Touch is that the iPad can make use of 3D Touch like functions now.

There’s a delay when wanting to pick up an App from the dock & drag it to multitask, but the positives outweigh the negatives imo.

Agree. Initially was really irritated at not having 3D Touch. Now don’t miss it. But it takes some adjustment.
For example you can drag the cursor with your finger, no need to 3D Touch it. You can also select text while space bar hold and dragging by using a second finger to touch the keyboard. The slight delay after releasing is probably the worst part of it but you can use that short time period to line up your finger for the next move.
I loved 3D Touch but I have already adjusted and am loving the new iPhone. I do hope the speed issue will be improved later.

I think haptic touch is a good implementation given that it loses the 3D Touch hardware. It’s a good replacement given the trade offs of better battery life

3D Touch is better in every way. If Apple could still have implemented it, that would have been the preferred option but given the changes to iOS 13 software and how it interacts with 3D Touch gestures, it’s looking like haptic touch will be permanently replacing 3D Touch. I had a XR last year and went back to my X because of 3D Touch, and this year returned both the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max at separate times. It’s still cumbersome for me, but I understand 3D Touch isn’t coming back so will have to adjust to haptic touch in the future eventually. For now, I will stick with 3D touch’s speed and more natural feel.

But I agree that haptic touch is as good as we can expect given the hardware that was lost. I still prefer 3D Touch specific gestures over haptic touch replacements, i.e how the keyboard cursor now has to default to a long press on “space” but at least Apple retained that 3D Touch gesture on 3D Touch devices as well as the 3D Touch app switches on the appropriate models

I will miss true peek and pop though. It’s the main reason I’ve stuck to iOS 12 for now. Though, I adjusted reasonably well to the haptic touch/iOS 13 version of it, and it’s a pretty good simulation.

I tried haptic touch in the Apple store came away dissatisfied. If they can increase the response time of the feedback vibration and action, I’d say that would compensate for lack of 3dt. For now it’s merely adequate and I miss peek and pop. Sad that Apple removed something truly unique to iPhone. I’m still convinced this was a cost cutting move that enabled fractionally better battery life. Hopefully 3dt returns someday.

One of the reasons I'm in no rush to upgrade to 11 Pro Max. Camera and battery are non-issues.

Already looking forward to 2020.
