Can they be blocked at IP level? I appreciate there are ways around this but eventually the effort required to post will outweigh any sick gratification.

Can something be done about this permanently? Otherwise it seems that the only solution is for my account to be cancelled. I'm tired of having to endlessly report them and they're presumably getting off on doing this.
Have you reached out to the admins via contact us? There may be options they can recommend that are better off left private, so as not to tip off the troll.

I received an email alert that the troll had spotted this thread and proceeded to continue the harassment here seeing as they can no longer DM me. Obviously their post was deleted and the account has been presumably blocked but they're determined to create new accounts in perpetuity to continue doing this.

FWIW, we removed those abusive posts earlier this morning and banned the member who created them. Staff is well aware of the problem and will continue to do all we can to prevent this kind of outrageous behavior.

Yikes! Circumventing to create more trouble! I praise the mods for cleaning up the mess.

I had a similar situation yesterday. One of my close friends’ iPhone got hacked. Someone in his family accessed his iPhone without permission, knew his passcode, and sent me iMessages that didn’t seem like they were from him. They were in Spanish, which he doesn’t usually message me in. The scammer made me uncomfortable, and many of the messages pointed to a romance scam involving things I can’t discuss here. I muted the iMessage conversation because it was distracting during my meeting. I then DMed my friend through Discord and reported it to him. He confirmed that someone had accessed his iPhone without permission and that he wasn’t sending the messages. He gave me instructions to stop the scammer, and it stopped. I instructed my friend to secure his iPhone and Apple Account by changing all the passwords and to never hand over his Apple devices to anyone without permission, even to family and friends. That incident really messed me up.

I feel sorry for you, OP. I’m glad the moderation team is working on this and suspending the offender’s accounts. I strongly support in your decision to cancel your account if you need a break from the forums and don’t want to deal with this kind of behaviour.

Disgraceful, disgusting and utterly unconscionable.

Nobody should have to - or be expected to - put up with this.

Very glad to hear that the staff are monitoring the matter, and keeping a close eye on things.

This has been ongoing for quite some time and a pattern would've been noticeable given the amount of times the same account reported an identical pattern of harassment. Perhaps the admins could contact me and we can discuss this as you've suggested.

Thanks once again to all the wonderful people in this thread who've offered compassion and empathy. It's an uplifting reaffirmation that the behaviour of this troll is not representative of the values of this community and I appreciate that. :)

Reports are always seen and investigated. Complaints of harrassment are never overlooked and always discussed. You can be assured we do everything we can with the tools available to us to prevent this type of behavior, and you are welcome to contact us via the Contact Us form at any time if you'd like to discuss this.

As the comments have been made, are racist, and the continued pursuit of you, constitutes stalking and harassment, the prudent course now for macrumors, is to contact the authorities, and pass over the 'IP' logs, messages, posts etc, and any other information to track the person down, and have them prosecuted.
Many people think they can get away with saying things online, that would get them into serious trouble IRL, but that should never become acceptable, and it's our duty to ensure that we do all we can to shut it down.

I don't believe Its MacRumor's responsibility to pursue a legal course of action, its the person reporting the harassment, the police would then need to subpoena MR for those logs. If the person continually re-registers, the odds are already high that he's using a VPN, so there's probably no damning evidence.

Its virtually impossible to bring anyone doing this to justice - just googling cyberstalking statistics, its estimated that 7.5 million americans are victims, where as 2019 the number of cases prosecuted peaked at. 80 - between 2010 and 2020 412 cases were prosecuted.

the heart and mindless bantering and "my  knowledge is better, and I will scorn you"
gets too much for me that I have to take months off from here, as I stopped posting here in March until last Friday.

This Forum was always about helping others when those G3 iMacs had their glory.
those "hoomans" should remember that, if they are able mentally.

Thanks for the input. It's a shame that is the case, but I do wonder if there is something more than can be done.

I recently had someone try to create a new account, using the same internet as me, and it flagged that I was opening a 2nd account. If this kind of IT information gets flagged at MR, I do wonder if they have the capability of blocking new accounts that are using VPN's, or having a method of human verification when you sign up, or similar to the political forums, new users are unable to private message until they get to an amount of 'posts'.

In all my many, many, many, years of internet forumhood, there is always at least one buffoon spewing the bitter, caustic poison that is blind hatred.

I realize we are all not going to get along 100% of the time, call me idealistic, but I need an actual reason to despise you, not just the fact that you are different than me. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.

In tune with the aliens, I’ve always speculated that if the universe’s was a school, and all the planets with intelligent life attended, Earth would take the short bus to get there.

I am so sorry to hear of the abuse you have received, and hope that it isn't causing too much pain and angst.
I too am a Londoner, and grew up in the Camberwell area in the 80's, and played Cricket for Streatham, and had many friends that lived in and around Brixton. It wasn't a great time around then for the many different communities, but I recently spent 2 years there, living in Clapham, and it was really great to see that the community has come together so much more.
