Hard Disk Update in Software Update

One of my G4s (a DP 500) is bringing up "Hard Disk Update" in SU. I don't see it on any of my other machines (not Xserve, other models of G4, iMac, or eMac).

It says "The Hard Disk Update improves the longevitry of some hard drives."

Don't see it on http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ yet.

Anyone else seeing this?

Don't know about the G4 500s, but that update has been around on some machines (G4 400s, and I think 733s) for years. I believe it updates the firmware on some hard drives (perhaps those old Deskstar IBM drives that died all over the place?), but I remember reading about issues with it when it first came out, so I've never installed it on any of the computers it shows up on.

I assume that if you've since upgraded the HD, it'll just check and find out it's not necessary, so it woudln't hurt to try it if you're feeling brave (though I'd DEFINITELY back up first).
