Hard drive erase 7 pass

So I have my old Mac doing a 7 pass on preparation for selling it, will it still run if the computer/screen is asleep? I've had it running since 7pm and now at 10:41pm it's in 2 out of 7 passes. Should I stop it and change some settings or will it continue to erase? Thanks

leave it and let it finish, unless you don't want all 7 passes to complete 😕

I want it to finish, I'm just making sure it's not stopping when it goes sleep

You should adjust the power settings to prevent it from sleeping. A 7 pass erase will take many hours though.
