I know this has been discussed many times but I couldn't find a clear solution to my situation.

Firstly, if someone could give me a link to an explanation of all the different drive formats that would be great.

I'm going to get an external hard drive enclosure with two drives. One 500gig drive for my video work and a 750gig drive to back up that drive and my internal MBP drive.

What formats should I use? It would be great if I could be able to share a drive with PCs. And be able to store large video files.

Here's an overview of formats: http://www.kernelthread.com/mac/osx/arch_fs.html

Both Mac and Windows can read/write to FAT32, but file sizes are limited to 4 GB (maybe not large enough for your needs).

It's a bit pricey, but MacDrive will allow your Windows computer to read/write mac-formated HDDs, so that's another option.
