hi, need some advice on my 2010 Macbook Pro, Can someone interperate this information as i have no clue what its going on about, i was recently told that there is something wrong with my macbook as it takes around 5 minutes to boot, i assumed it normal for the age of the machine, my friend told me to download some S.M.A.R.T thing, and this is what it chucked out. does this mean i need a new hard drive?

It sure looks like you have a spinner HDD that is failing (see all the "Pre-fail" status in the Type column).

You need to backup ASAP, if you have not already done it. I recommend replacing your HDD with a SSD, if you plane on keeping the 2010 MBP.

Do you have a HDD or SSD? If it's a HDD, it should be replaced. The ID #5 and #196 may not be a problem but #197 is. This is the "current count of unstable sectors". Hopefully you have a current backup. If not, you should try to do one. There's a possibility that HDD just has a temporary issue but with HDD prices what they are, most people are better off replacing the drive, especially if it has any age to it (say, over 2 years old).

If you have a SSD, you may be able to remedy the problem by writing zero's to the entire drive but again you should do a backup if possible and #197 is still a problem. If you need information on doing the write zero's, let us know.

If your backup is not incremental (like Time Machine), you should not do a backup to your current backup disk - get a different disk.
