I just installed my 500 GB hard for my Macbook Pro, but I don't believe it is reading the hard drive. When I'm going in the OS backup disk and try to install the disk it does not come up as an option to install the OS. I'm just lost

This is my first Mac and I could really use some help! Thanks for your help in advance

If you are sure that you installed the drive correctly, there is a possibility that the drive is DOA. You may need to get it returned for a replacement.

If it helps.

When I get to the screen
"Select a destination. Where do you want to install Mac OS X"
I have no options

Did you format the drive with Disk Utility first? If not, select it from the installer's "Utilities" menu, select the drive, and set it to single partition GPT (GUID partition map), and format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). When it finishes, try installing again, see if you can select it now.

Yeah I just noticed that. I figured I needed to partition the drive somehow but wasn't sure how.

Thanks for the help! I think my problem is solved
