As of recent I've been noticing on my penryn blackbook that the hdd sounds similar to my fan running at 2500-2700 rpm. I may be mistaken, but I feel like that the computer used to be almost silent except when I put my ear very close to it. Is that amount of noise from the hdd common on other macbooks or could this potentially be a problem? Thanks!

The HD will run hard when it's doing HD-intensive tasks, such as running a backup or moving a lot of files. Is it running hard all of the time or just occasionally?

I'm not doing anything more than just using firefox and ichat. I usually have mail, calendar, itunes, and preview running, but closed to the dock. Could it potentially be stuff on dashboard? I am using a forecast widget, dopplar radar, organized, notes, a red sox score widget, a mlb scoreboard, espn widget, calculator, itunes widget, the movie ticket widget, and istat nano.
