yeah that is cool, but if you read the article they are basically worthless due to the fact they are 12.5 mm thick instead of 9.5mm. so they cannot be used by most laptops and many other types of devices that use 2.5 hard drives. this was kind of dumd and i think they just wanted to be the first to have them in that class but it was really dumb to even try cause there it like a set standard on drive sizes that manufacturers built to and this is way over it. way to go western digital. the sad thing is they probably will not make a large amount of money due to the development costs on them unless many companies can use them in some device of theirs.
 
I just ordered a WD 500GB 5400 from newegg. The reviews there have been solid and it appears nobody is having problems with the beeps and freezes. I'll let you know more when I receive it but for $89 and free shipping, if it doesn't work, I'll have a good external.
 
The Seagate 7200.4 comes as two different models.

One is labeled AS and the other ASG.

The G stand for G-protection, which the MBP have built-in.
There are lots of reports that the G model is interferencing with the built-in G-protection in MBPs, thus makes clicking noise.
