    hi guys,

    I'm new here.
I was wondering if you could give me a suggestion about what HD to purchase for my January 2010 MBP.
    it's a 2.66 GHz dual core.

    I'm looking for a 500g @ 7200 rpm.
any idea about brands and types (do all tyes fit in any mbp?).
    I stumbled uppon this.

    what do you guys think?

P.S. any idea on where to sell my 320g 5400rpm HD besides ebay?

Save yourself the hassle and sell locally throug craigslist, you can get cash and make someone meet you up to pick it up.

Someone will chime in with the rest... Also do some research on SSD ( Solid Sate Drive) if you have the pesos to spend for a real upgrade.

    Good luck.

    thanks to both of you!
that's exactly what I was looking for and for a good price too.

I'm gonna place the order right away.

do you guys have any suggestions for a hassle-free data migration?
I'd like to copy my current HD EXACTLY as it is on the new one.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your existing drive, then restore it from the clone. Or put your new drive in an enclosure, clone your existing drive to your new one, then simply swap the drives.

    thanks, that's all I need!

by the way, as far as a solid state goes, I really don't have the money for that.
my priority is space, and I can't get any less than 500 gigs (I work with music sequencers and libraries that are just huge and I don't want to carry an external HD around).
never tried any on a laptop. I bet it's smokin fast.

are there big differences between a regular hard drive and a hybrid?

    yeah, just looked that up.
too bad they cost twice as much.

anyway... unless anyone thinks there's something better than the WD 500g Black, I'm gonna go for it.

    thanks yall!

guys, I need another little help.

I bought that WD hard disk.
before installing it I made an exact copy of my HD on an external HD.
now I need to startup the computer from the external HD (it's GUI formatted).
so I turn on the mac by pressing the option key, I select the external HD, the black "wheel" keeps spinning, but the system just doesn't start up.
the HD is USB, not firewire.
when I boot from the internal hard drive I can see and use the external one, so I don't think there's a driver failure.
I tried switching USB port and using another chord, but it still won't work.

    any suggestion?

P.S. I have an Intel MacBook Pro with 10.6.6 installed.
