My 2006 macbook's hard drive has failed but my apple care is over. Does anyone know if the hard drives have a 5 year warranty through the manufacturer itself? Thanks

Also is there a noticeable difference between 5400 rpm versus 7200 rpm hard drives?

If its the original drive, the warranty ends with the MBs warranty. Drives are cheap (<$100) and easy to replace. I noticed a difference between 5400 and 7200 but if you use lots of space get a big 5400. If you don't, you could always buy an SSD for around $300 for a big improvement.
