i just got a new mbp 15 this week and i was looking at these cases eg incase or speck just wanted to know how is the viewing angle on these? are you able to fully recline it back?

If I "were smart enough" ?

Why are you starting to be rude? I wonder!

I will not bother to even tell you about myself and how smart I am :D

oh, i'm not trying to be rude. i just need to get more sleep. xD

with the speck ones, you are.

Wow, and i thought i was anal retentive about my stuff.

The pictures of the bottom of the notebook from the user who said it was totally F'd. Looks fine to me.

Who looks at the bottom of a notebook anyhow? Seriously.... It's either sitting on something (can't see the bottom), or its in some sort of bag/backpack (can't see the bottom).

Those clear cases ruin the whole look IMHO. The whole reason i like apple gear is because of the matte/brushed aluminum look. The whole PC industry seems to be obsessed with glossy plastic, and you all go and get glossy plastic to wrap your mac in.

i tought it was pretty sexy

For months now, I have had my 13 inch Macbook Pro in a Speck hard plastic case. I took it off today, only to find around 3 nicks on the bottom of the laptop.

My question to all of you, is whether or not you think a hard plastic case on Apple products is even relatively necessary, because it seems like most of the "accessories" I have been buying do more harm than good.

Also, the Aluminum shell looks depressing under all that protective plastic so I don't think I will be putting the case back on.

What do you all think? Naked Macbook, or protected Macbook? :)

I have dropped my macbook pro twice on its side. There is a minor dent in the side of the screen, plus about three chips taken out of the palm rest area. My point is, its a laptop and its meant to be used. Its going to get dented and scratched eventually. It adds character, so get over it. Relax.

My speck 15 in is holding up nicely . There are no heat issues because the heat escapes from the back. As far as scratches caused by the speck go, there are none. Taking it off is a little rough, But not a problem. Just make sure you have long finger nails

If you ever decide to do more intensive applications, be sure to take the case off though.

You're right, the heat escapes from the back, however, I would get a program to monitor temperatures as the whole unit as a whole acts as a mild heat sink due to the aluminum.

By putting the case on it, you are effectively keeping that heat in that would otherwise be released.

I agree, and that's why I'm going to wait a bit and get a hard sleeve down the road.

However, there are simply some people who want to keep their machine in a perfect condition forever.

I have two friends who are brothers; one keeps his 09 MB inside the original box when he isn't using it and the other always slides his under the bed.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but I give mine a little more love. :)

As long as you put them on correctly. So many people get pissed off because they can't recline the screen all the way back. If you put the bottom of the top on first, the rest just snaps into place and everything works as it should.

I have noticed that mine feels much heavier with a case on it. However, I know that the second I go somewhere without it on, I will bang it on something that a case would have otherwise protected.

That is probably psychological due to the fact that it's thicker and bulkier. the cases don't add a significant amount of weight (or mine doesn't, at least)

Or not?

Cases add about a pound. That's 1/5 of the weight of the laptop by itself.

And you have the whole set point issue going on, and the fact that the laptop's weight is all on your fingers when you walk (holding it in one arm at your side).

Adding more weight really makes a difference when you're accustomed to it being the same for such a long period of time.

Try picking up a cup that's empty when you think it's full, see how light it is and how high your hand goes? You get accustomed to weight; years of picking up cups with the "same" general weight sticks in your mind; that's how you can pick up generally anything without exerting too much or too little force.

Technically it's psychological but there's more emphasis on muscle memory here.

although everything you said is pretty much true, i take issue with the pound part. there is no way my case is a pound. it doesn't feel like a pound at all...

I've always babied my Mac laptops, and I've been fortunate never to get any major scratches, except for a random occurrence that happened to my Titanium PowerBook when a clipboard fell corner-first onto the palm rest, creating a nasty-looking dent. That event aside, I have kept my Macs dent and scratch-free by keeping them in neoprene/canvas cases (Incase) and being extremely careful with them when they're out of their computer condom. The case I have for my iPhone 4 has created faint pockmarks on the back glass (should have bought a screen protector for the back as I did for the front). For this reason, I would be very hesitant to put my computer inside a hard plastic shell.
