hardcore firewire geeks needed

ok a few days ago my firewire drive disappeared. this was about a few days after I installed 10.5.3

so I try the same firewire drive on my macbook again, no go

so I go buy another cable, same thing on both , no go.

so I go on ebay and buy a cheap 200gb drive, no go again.

both firewire drives were working days before and now nothing. new cords still nothing on both drives.

the systems are a intel mac mini,and a intel mac book.

swapped the hard drives in the external cases still nothing.

none of the drives show up under disc utilities. so I download a data recovery program. both drives don't even exist... don't show up and not listed.

under about this mac both say "firewire up to 400mb/sec" and thats it.

any clue...reinstalled 10.5.3 again on both nothing sit......

any help would be great I've seem to lost all my backups if no help can be found.

Not really going to help directly but might help determin the problem.

Do you have a usb caddy you can pop the drives into, just to prove the drives are working fine or not.


I dont have a FW hard drive, but my video cam picks up fine on FW on 10.5.3

On my old PowerMac G4 MDD I had a similar issue where the firewire ports on my computer just stopped working.

So i did the steps on this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/89736/

After that everything went back to normal. Hope that helps

tried that still nothing but in fsck -f firewire did register and said ready after listing the chip type....
