When i bought my mac mini two months ago i changed my standard harddisk with a SSD.
The replacing didn't go as well as i wanted to as the aluminum foil that is protecting the original harddisk is not usable anymore.
Now i was wondering if this foil is avaible somewhere to buy

This is a pic of the hardisk with the foil.

    Master of understatement!

How did that happen? Is that mechanical damage from being forced into place?
I'm assuming that the foil is originally part of the Mini? In which case, it will be both difficult and expensive to replace, as it's probably an Apple custom component.

No nothing happened to it with replacing the harddisk.....i peeled it of the drive too many times so it does not stick to the drive anymore.....

The foil is only used to protect the mechanical parts of the drive from the grill on which the drive is screwed on.

I was wondering what the purpose of that adhesive cover is anyways

I put it back when I swapped mine and it kind of stuck so I kept it on cause it can't hurt but I'm curious if it is necessary.
