I was researching SSD Hard drives and noticed that they receive firmware updates... So since they have them, do regular harddrives also have firmware updates? If so how do I find out if my Macbook Pro hard drive needs one

There's rarely a need to update it. Unless there is a serious problem, hard drive firmware does not get updated. Just google you drive and the word firmware. If nothing comes up, you're most likely OK.

Even if there are, in most cases it's to fix an incompatibility with one specific controller or mainboard. The rule is generally not to bother updating firmware on an HDD unless you have a problem. If it's all Apple shipped, they'd likely push it through software update if there were a problem.
