I'm looking for a device that does the following:

MIDI In and Guitar input to USB, all on one box.

Does this exist? If so, can someone point me in the direction of this? Or will I have to get one converter per instrument? Basically I want to be able to hook up an electric drumset and an electric guitar to my computer all at once.

You may have to consider 2 units as most of the equipment is either midi or audio. You may find someone who makes such a device though.

You might consider using a software based drum machine ala Garageband or some of the better ones like Battery and Kontakt from Native Instruments which are plugins for Logic Pro.

That would be my recommendation, use software for midi and for any acoustic instruments, get a decent ad/da converter.

Have you looked at the usual companies like:

M-Audio - http://www.m-audio.com

Native Instruments - http://www.native-instruments.com

possible

Look at the alesis io 14, it's firewire but will give four mic/guitar inputs and midi as well. I am running the io 26 which has 8 inputs and midi, and as long as you do not update to garageband 4.1.1 and stay at 4.1 these things run like tanks. I am running back a 14 track without stutter or dropout.

M-Audio definetly will have something like this as well and comes with pro tools le software.

Er, um... in my experience only the least expensive interfaces are only MIDI or only Audio - most units have both. Agreed that Edirol and M-Audio have lots of choices.

Edirol UA-25 UA-101 USB Audio+MIDI

FA-101 FA-66 Firewire Audio+MIDI

M-AUDIO
FastTrack Pro USB Audio+MIDI
Firewire 410 Firewire Audio+MIDI

Alesis
iO|2 USB Audio + MIDI

iO|14 Firewire Audio + MIDI

You also have the option of a keyboard controller, with audio and MIDI interfaces built in
M-Audio Ozone USB 37 keys + controllers + Audio + MIDI

Ozonic Firewire 37 keys + controllers + Audio + MIDI

M-Audio definetly will have something like this as well and comes with pro tools le software.
Only some of the M-Audio interfaces come with ProTools M-Powered (not LE).
