Hi

Trying to get the hardware test to work without success.

In principal I restart, press "D" before the start chime and wait. I should then get the Hardware test. But I don't.

I even dug our the Leopard install disks and tried booting from the disk, no success.

Anything special I should be doing ??

My iMac is a 1st gen MBair with external apple CD. OSX 10.7.5

thanks

I have sorted this out.

Weaselboy; thanks for input, but No that Apple page does not provide input.

Actually, further to extensive googling it appears that the Lion update DID NOT carry forwards the AHT.

And previous disks of Snow Leopard and Leopard could not help.

I actually had to go to the original disks (Tiger) shipped with the MacBookAir and use unix commands to copy the AHT back.

To do that I used Pacifist to extract the installer from the disk and then unix cp -R /[temp folder]/CoreServices/.diagnostics /System/Library/CoreServices

Frankly, apple could have fixed this in one of the multiple updates it did to lion.

Come to think of it, things such as AHT, Target mode, etc. should not be activated "only" thru obtuse keys, but thru simple settings in the Preferences Panel. Something like, at next startup run ...

What a waste of time ! Zero points to apple this time round
