Hey everyone,

I have been having issues with my MacBook as of late and I was thinking about replacing the parts that are dying (Fan, Hard Drive and Battery are all I know of so far) but I don't want to replace them to find that there are more issues :(

So does anyone know if you can do a Hardware Test without the Restore discs?

You can't run the test without the original disc, but Apple Hardware Test never finds problems anyway, so you're not missing out on too much. :(

The battery and the hard drive are the only parts that will definitely need to be replaced as your computer ages, so I wouldn't be overly concerned about other parts.

Keep in mind that some MacBooks have a hard drive repair extension program (which means that if the hard drive has failed, Apple will replace it for free). Batteries aren't too pricey ($90 for a new genuine Apple battery), and often times, fans just need cleaning, not replacement.

Doesn't sound like it should be too expensive!
