Are they in color or black and white? Are the illustrations high resolution?

I can't speak for the others but the iBook version is exactly the same is the actual book - colour cover, black-and-white chapter illustrations.

Edits in the digital version?

...secondly these digital versions are edited and I like the text to be as true to the original as possible, with all is flaws, mistyping and spelling errors.

That's the whole reason why I got the lesser know "Special Edition" box set instead of the newer and widely available "Signature Edition" existing of newer cover art and revised text. When I'm getting something for my collection I want it to be as true to the original as possible and the "Special Edition" provides just that instead of these newer "Signature Editions" with new flashy cover art and the whole text revised.

Could you please elaborate on the digital versions being edited. Is it just the mistyping and spelling errors that were corrected? Was anything else changed/added/deleted?

I agree that I prefer for things to be as close to the original as possible. I'm OK with edits for spelling errors, but if there are any other edits, I'd like to know about them.

Thanks for your help.

is there any difference in quality/functionality/smoothness in these books compared to if you download a book straight from the ibookstore?

Simple (and perhaps overly basic) question: The Pottermore site specifies a required Adobe add-on that the Adobe site says is not supported on iPad. How do you buy and download these on Pottermore so they can be read by iBook (preferably not the Kindle app) on an iPad. I would fel much better if I could link directly throgh from the iBook store!

I bought these through the Pottermore website last night and had no problem dropping them into iTunes and then syncing to my iPad 2. As far as I know I did not have to add anything from Adobe (if it did it was added in the background and I didn't know about it). I'm running the most current version of iBooks and am not jailbroken, if that makes a difference.

Could it be that you are missing some add on from Adobe that part of the Pottermore site needs to run, and not something with the books themselves?

We are most likely talking about spelling corrections and mistyping corrections, nothing more. Perhaps some illustration changes and such.

This counts of the British editions, the american ones seems to be the exact same as they've always been but I'll guess there are some minor tweaks to the text here and there as well.

I'm reading through in order so haven't gotten there yet, but I would guess the famous issue of the order of the visions of Lily and James coming out of Voldemort's wand in the graveyard in Goblet of Fire has been corrected. I believe that after it was caught it was corrected in future printings (my hard cover copy has the original wrong order, with James appearing before Lily).

iBook version details, as requested

I just purchased the collection and chose the direct download to my Mac. I had to download each book individually, but once they were on my Mac all I had to do was drag them into iTunes. From iTunes, I was able to move them to both of my iPads without having to redownload them--so I still have 7 downloads remaining. The format of the download is ePub and appears to be unprotected, so should be useable on other devices as well, although if you want a Kindle-specific (AZW) version, you'll have to download directly onto your Kindle. If memory serves, the Kindle will also support unprotected ePub books, but you have to side-load them from your computer to the Kindle. But I digress...

Back to the appearance of the ePub version in iBooks. As I expected, the covers appear in color but the books themselves are black and white. The illustrations are quite nice (on par with what one gets in the hardcopy version). All the features of an iBook are supported, including both page numbers and pages remaining in this chapter (YAY!!).

This is exactly what I have been holding out for. :) (I have paperback versions of the first 6 books, but have not yet read them because I prefer to read on my iPad. I heretofore have not purchased the 7th book for the same reason.)

This is kind of funny. In Canada, we can't buy the US English version of the books, we have to buy the UK English versions. However, we can only buy the US version of the audio books, not the UK versions.

And to make it even better, the UK versions are more expensive in the complete collection by about $4.

They don't want to risk having you think it's okay to spell color and such without a u.

There were actual plot mistakes in the original releases of some of the books.
James emerging from the wand before Lily and stuff like that.
I also remember news stories about the wrong character name being used in a certain scene of one of the books.
These were corrected in later printings and I assume they'll be corrected in the digital versions as well.

Anyone else having issues purchasing these from the website? I put in all my information and it goes to this Visa verifying thing and every time it says payment could not be completed. I use this card every day so I know it's not a bad card, any suggestions?

Are you trying to buy the version that doesn't match your locale?
US vs UK or something like that.
I think you need to buy it as a "gift" if you are.

Nope, live in the US trying to buy the US version

I hit make payment and then a white box pops up and it says Added Payment Security and Processing.... and then it says Sorry, your payment could not be processed. No money has been taken from your account. Please check your details and try again, or use a different card.

I've quadruple checked that my card info is correct.

Thanks for the info. I think this is a simple question, but I just want to make sure that I understand correctly. If I download the book via direct download, and then move it to iTunes, can I then upload it to my iPad, my iPhone, AND my iPod touch and that will still only count as 1 download? Am I understanding that correctly?

Thanks for your help.

You can download the samples straight to the iPad. So you can try before you buy.

Just click the "download sample to computer" button on the iPad, and then choose the option to open in iBooks.

That's great but I can't really bring myself to rebuy them for my ipad when I have all the physical books.

Yes you would download it once to your computer.

Once it is on your computer it is just like any other file. You can move the files around however much you want to.
