Well if we do find them and they know that we know we found them...then we might have a war of the worlds part 2.

I for one don't wanna know....because i aint saving nobody!;)

Highly unlikely to say the least! If we do make contact- the aliens will be maybe 100's of light years away- which means that even travelling at light-speed they won't show up here for 100's of years. Also- just because we observe them- that doesn't mean that they instantly know that! They would have to observe us through their telescopes to find us. Just because I watch Jay Leno on TV, it doesn't mean that he can see me.

Also- the amount of energy the aliens would have to expend to travel hundreds of light years probably far exceeds the total exploitable energy from our fossil fuels and in our live-stock and agriculture. It just doesn't make sense to travel all that way to steal our stuff! That kind of smash and grab only makes sense for intercontinental distances- not interstellar distances.

This is radio contact. The alien isn't going to come down in a space-ship to say hello!

Humans aren't that bad by the way. I like quite a lot of them. I don't think an alien civilization would judge us harshly. Remember- we're all animals- evolved to fight for survival- it's really only natural that we should have had a few skirmishes over territory and mates. We might even survive another century or two.

ok im looking at that site.. ufoevidence.org and it looks like whoever made the site went through a lot of effort to put some of that stuff up. is all that stuff for real? im thinkin clever photoshop jobs....

Um yeah- it's all baloney! We'd really really like to believe that aliens have visited us- but there is no reliable evidence whatsoever. Unfortunately- thousands of people can be just plain wrong.

If aliens had visited us- it would be the most important scientific and historical event for centuries. It would change our whole perspective on the universe. University departments would instantly switch over to studying alien technology and culture.

However, what these websites give are grainy photos, pseudo-scientific babble and cover-up theories and no proof! It doesn't matter how many times these are discredited- they will still continue to pop up.

Not directed at you, but many people like to imagine that the government is involved in a complex conspiracy- but the evidence just doesn't hold up. It's almost impossible for a government to keep a secret that big for more than a few hours- let alone for decades. And with aliens, you'd have to imagine an international conspiracy of governments colluding to withold the truth. So Iran and the US and Israel and Syria would all have to get together to agree to withold the evidence. Not very likely is it?

For all we know, aliens could have seeded the planet or left our ancestors here. Is there a cover up? Perhaps. Could the government make you think that there is a cover up to keep your mind away from other things they really didn't want you to know? Probably. We'll probably find out a hundred years from now that Area 51 is the government's hidden gambling and prostitution facility. Doesn't that make more sense than hiding aliens and a space ship?

Ah, Harvard.

Link.

I mean, it's great that they're looking and all, but ... what do we do when Harvard finds aliens?
Lou Dobbs suggests: A. Slap them on the wrist; B. Send them back across the border from whence they came.

Ya if its hard enough to stop them from jumping the border imagine how hard it will be to get them back on their ships and deport them.

All iam saying is something is going on and deep in the bowels of the Pentagon/Govt we arent suppose to know it.
Lets see now what could we really do about say a race similar to us only a few thousand years ahead? is that so hard in a universe of 12.5 billions years old? Our secondary star Sole is only what 4.5 billion years old? Could be there are more then one out there that have been watching us for very long long time. Isnt that what we would do? Observing distant planets is almost in our reach, The proof is there you only have to look and wasnt me that reported a Disc was discovered, it was the U.S Air Force that happened to be the only one in the world at the time that had nuclear weapons. Where else would they be? Think about it.The one place in the world if anyone would be watching.
Sure we could catch a stray signal of a race who is at ther same stage of evolution as us but it would be a signal from eons ago. We have a better chance in the deep depths of the pentagon cover ups is my thinking. release the info. stop hiding it and blackening it out.

Why do I want to find aliens --- so they can anally probe us?

Look, we don't need to send out signals to find aliens, and we don't need to detect for signals. If they were so sophisticated, they have found us already. Don't Hurt Me is right, or at least has a point. There's got to be life out there smarter than us, and have probably found us already, and someone on Earth probably knows about it.

When several people film a UFO flying above Phoenix, and around 3000 people claim to see it in the night sky, somehow the government still manages to cover it up and convinces people that it was an air force exercise where they were testing out a new aircraft. A new aircraft that has no helicopter propellor and yet can just float in mid-air? Where is it now?

And slightly off-topic.....

If in the future, possibly hundreds or thousands of years from now, humans found a way to time-travel, then surely someone on Earth right now is from the future, or people from the future have visited our Earth already. Think about it.

It would be impossible for the international community of governments to mount a cover-up for more than a couple of days if aliens had really visited this planet. By far the most plausible explanation is that the 3000 people were mistaken. After all, most people in the USA believe that there's a sky-god who can read their minds and requires constant praise. This is without any evidence whatsoever- and it doesn't make it correct. (If you have a personal problem with this- then just imagine I'm writing about one of the other competing sky-gods that people in other countries believe in.)

From a scientific basis, it really doesn't matter how many people report a UFO- there is still no proof. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence!

I'd love to reply to these comments- but they appear so incoherent that I just can't understand what you're saying. If there's any documented proof of alien visitation- then please send it to one of our research universities- or the media. They'd both love to hear about it. Of course, you could also send it to the James Randi Educational Foundation and win their 1 million dollar prize- which would be shortly followed by a Nobel prize for the most significant scientific discovery of the century.

Religion and a UFO sighting are completely different. The UFO thing is much more random. A lot of people saw the same thing on the same night, and 3 people video recorded it. Religion is something that people "believe" in all the time, and while I'm an atheist, even I can see that these are 2 very different and incomparable things, whether both are real or not.

I'm not saying that the thing people saw flying above Phoenix was real. I'm saying I wouldn't be surprised if it was, and that it was covered up. Be open-minded. You don't need irrefutable proof that something is real. In fact, science is often like that ---- things generally point in a certain direction, and we scientists just go with 99% belief that it's true.

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence! If you said you had a fairy living at the bottom of your garden, I would need very good evidence indeed before I believed you. Unless you came up with that evidence, I would be inclined to think that you were mistaken.

The UFO phenomenom is just as predictable as religious claims. It only occured after we had cinema and science-fiction stories of alien invasion became popular. There are no UFO sightings from the middle ages.

It simply doesn't amount to anything if 3 or 10 or 100 people saw the same thing. They could all have been equally mistaken. Also, the concept of mass-halucination is enough to explain the uniformity of responses.

I am open minded enough to consider the possibility that aliens have landed, but I am also logical enough to know that better explanations exist for the reporting of this phenomenom.

Scientists do not go with 99% belief, or even 100% belief. They go with testable hypotheses- no matter how many people believe or don't believe the hypothesis.

Ooh. Not according to the "Angels were Aliens!" people.

Rainy day link two.

Just think. If you don't click on those links, you'll miss out on sentences like:

What if the aliens think the fundamentalists and terrorests are preasts, religios leaders and freedom fighters. You need to think about every posible out come. What if they make first contact with me, i would tell them humanity dosnt deserve to exist and to irradicat the hole lot of us. What if they meet Presendend Bush and deside were all monkeys. And in all likelyness they will go to china or india first, the two largest populations before they will go to the USA. To them the USA is a minnority group. What if intelegent life exists else ware on the planet they would rather comunicate with, they could have more in comon with Doliphins than Humans and want to see creatures simaler to there ansesters. Life out side our little box dosnt have to be interested in us, its deffinitly not going to make first contact with the USA its going for the largest population witch it could deside by island mass. They mite be monitoring the people that speak the language closest to there own, they mite see humans as being diffrent races, chinese are very diffrent looking to europeians. What if there waiting for us to make a jesture, like blowing all our nukes on mars or something so show were not out to make enimys. Because of all the fun ways we have fought of killing each other the mite try the vulcans first :)
