I fondly remember the time when there were no leaked images, vagaries around possible specs, whispers of new products, guesses as to colours, but nothing more. Now we know names, get leaked images for months ahead, have every spec announced weeks in adavance, jeez, I'm even getting emails from major case suppliers showing off their new cases with the phones, colours etc. It kind of feels like waking up on Christmas morning but knowing what every persent under the tree is already.
I guess we can all make more informed decisions now, but i wish there was still some mystery to the event 😢

Ah yes the excitement prior to a release has worn off coming from the early iPhone & Mac days until now.

Loved those news headlines when people would line up outside an Apple store on launch day.....

Now, it's a forgotten memory...

My first and only launch day was for the iPhone 5.

I was at home, waiting for the delivery of my preorder. Because of the Apple event, one week prior, I knew exactly what I was getting.

No standing around an Apple store and then smashing my phone in the excitement, like that one guy in Australia that the news covered way back when.

Sadly times have changed, we are all likely nostalgic toward the camping outside an Apple Store on launch day and being wowed by the keynote having not seen any leaks before hand.

These days, we already know what is coming and it’s only the finer details that aren’t widely known.

First of all, I think LiveEvents would bring back a lot of the magic instead of MTV-styled movies. It’s just a different experience and maybe the time span between productions and showtime of the Keynote-movie makes spontaneity impossible, whereas LiveEvents give Apple a chance, to be flexible until shortly before the event. It would keep the circle of silence tighter and might bringt back some of the lost magic.
At the same time, Apple is sorely lacking innovative products that raise the bar. The last was the AVP and they seem to have lost the belief in that one as well. Which will ultimately lead them to a dead end of «services» and iterative updates. Which is okay for such a big company, but surely doesn’t help making their events more exciting.

As early as 2011 2010, the iPhone 4 was spoiled/leaked even before the event.

I mixed up the year of iPhone 4S with the year of iPhone 4

iPhone 6 was leaked for months, we knew months before we were getting two new huge models back then. So not sure what you are talking about? Leaks have always happened due to manufacturing.

There was not a lot of magic as we are banging our heads against the technology ceiling. Hardware advance was incremental with a lot of software promises for the future. Wary of the “future” thing!

It’s the same as every year for the past while, relatively little improvements with massive marketing budgets. They’re nice phones don’t get me wrong but they’re pretty much the same phones as last year.

I used to get really excited and would often get up early to follow the events live.

This time I actually forgot it was even happening.
