Actually, mine is inside the car behind a plastic panel near the roof but I did "tape" music to an audio cassette back in the day.

I dropped one in the little coin box thingy in the armrest/storage in-between the two front seats in my 2020 Peugeot 208. It's reasonably far from any houses, in a parking area at the back of my garden. It seems to always have a correct current location - it pretty much always says 'Less than 10 minutes ago'.

Ouch! Costs more than the airtag! Hopefully someone on AliExpress provides the same thing sold out the back of the factory. :)

Edit: Not the same thing, but this would likely do. :)

I use the Gorilla Box to hold the airtag and an extra key for the vehicle.
While it doers cost $19, both items are secure and clean for quite a while.

Be constructive and actually say something in your response please thanks.

Please let me know how is GPS location going to work in an indoor or underground parking lot. Not everyone here lives in the US and outdoor mega parking lots are not that common.
Air Tags don't use GPS. They use Bluetooth and every person who has an iphone can ping the airtag. that's how it works.

how do you think the location is shown in the Find My app? The "receiving" apple device needs GPS to have a precise location of the AirTag it just received the signal for or Wifi/cell triangulation (but less precise)... both are usually not really available in an indoor or underground parking lot

Cell signal may not be strong enough to send data, but may be strong enough for aGPS to still work on the phone - iPhones remember the location of AirTags when they're out of coverage and report that location when they have a data context again.

That being said - parking garages are problematic as Apple still isn't using elevation in their mapping. :( They can tell you where on the 2D plane your car is, but not what level of the parking garage. (hope they hurry the hell up and add the third axis).

Of course. The question was how the airtags work and they work using bluetooth, not GPS. I get your point though. There was a great article in NY Times about a guy who found his stolen car because he had an airtag hidden in the car. I have one hidden in mine as well. It pings very well driving down the street. They'll hear it if it beeps but they'll never get at it without dismantling the car.

Technically you can track all family member's cars on your iPhone, so instantly you can know exactly where he go and how long stay there....

And they'll get the anti-stalking notifications that they're being tracked - and eventually figure out by who.

Yep - good luck with that. It will make holidays with your family all that much more special. :D

hid and taped under glove box of guy's car w/o notice....secret gentle care...

I have AirTagged my car since the release of AirTags, I purchased a hideaway key/transponder magnet case from amazon and placed it under the car and had no issues trying to locate it when I want to. Also I placed it somewhere where it's going to take some time to find it lol, there going to have to use a lift.

I've got one in my Dodge truck and another in my Scout.

I've successfully tracked both of my vehicles while they were at the shop having upgrades does. Separate/2 different shops FWIW.

Working wonderfully here for both of our cars. I have them in a small leather pouch from Amazon and hidden in the glovebox under some items. Great coverage and no issues here with heat or cold so far.

I tested the trunk vs a spot near the rear view mirror (away from the sun). The trunk only stayed connected from about 15 feet at best, while the one behind the rear view mirror got connections from 45 feet. I also remove the speakers on my airtags meant to track stolen items.

I've been using it since day 1, I've hidden mine below the trunk where spare tire and tire change equipment is. I live in a densely populated city and even on the remotest parts I still receive an update within 30 minutes at the latest. It is very accurate in general. Probably due to the location of the airtag, I am unable to effectively use the precise location, where an arrow directs you to the airtag but other than that it is pretty useful. I believe I will be easily able to locate my car in case its towed or worse, stolen.
