Apple's refurbs are generally of like-new quality, and backed by Applecare. The only thing you miss is the fancier box. Many people on the board have purchased refurbs and been very happy.

My MBP was purchased refurbished and I have no regrets. Now when I purchased the LED ACD, that was a whole other story, had 3 replacements and all were unacceptable in some form.

I've had my 09 13" MBP for nearly a year! It's still in flawless condition, and runs great. Never had any problems with it. I saved $200 going through the refurb store. For me, it was a great buy

I'm on my third mac notebook, but this is my first refurbished, so I though I'd share my thoughts.

Ordered the 13 inch 2.26 MBP for 1099 (Can) a few days before the most recent update. Even though I was within my return window when the new ones were announced, the upgrade wasn't huge, and I figured this was enough computer for my needs. (mostly video and photo editing).

However, I noticed that apple had dropped the price on my refurbished model to 1019, so I phoned customer service and they refunded the difference.

Anyways, it has had no problems at all, and is indistinguishable from a new mac. (Probably because it IS a new mac, arriving with only 2 cycles on the battery). Not a single blemish on the case, screen or keyboard, and they had either washed and ironed the power cables, or they were brand new. Even though you don't get the unboxing-porn of a new shiny piece of cardboard, the computer does come swaddled in new plastic, which is a nice touch.

I also like knowing that my particular unit has had full burn-in testing, and is statistically less likely to ever break, since something on it presumably already has, and has since been fixed...

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend getting a refurbished. Saving $230 was worth it for me to go with the older but still awesome mac. I'll only ever buy refurbished from now on.

I'm also awaiting delivery of a HengeDock (and plan on posting a review after spending some time with it) so the audio out over MiniDP on the newer machines is a moot point for me, since the dock is how I plan on connecting to my receiver.

FWIW, Plex runs amazing on this machine, and the recent switch to hardware H.264 decoding on the 9400 makes this a capable little media centre to boot. I've also just discovered that I can use my PS3 remote over bluetooth to play old school video games, but that has nothing to do with the topic at hand....

Anyway, hope this helps with the decision. You won't regret it!
