Has anyone converted their DVD's to MPEG4?

Why would you do that for? Just rip the DVD as mpeg2, and with the Apple mpeg2 component you can edit it uncompressed (well uncompressed when compared to the DVD).

Had several VCR tapes that were converted to DVD, now want to edit the dvd to extract unwanted video and audio. Then combine all the edited footage into a single video for distribution to family. I'm new to video editing and i'm not sure i understand what you mean by "just rip the dvd to mpeg2," how would I do that (what software?)
