I have been looking for a good voice recorder app and have YET to find one

basically what i would LIKE it to do is record my voice and then add it to a certain day on my calender so it can remind me of what i just told it.

It wouldnt even NEED to transcribe it into text, althought that would be nice.

I tried the various free ones, and they SUCK. I mean the free one that transcribes into text took 3 DAYS to actually turn it into text, and the usability was horrible. I could not figure out how to set dates to remind me.

Anyways, i'm looking for some suggestions. I would be willing to pay for one, but i would like some SERIOUS feedback from someone who has actually used it. Some of the reviews are useless.

On a similar note, is there a voice dialer/texter yet? Typing while driving is kind of a pain and i would LOVE to just talk into the phone and send a quick text.

The hurtle with this is that no app can give you a reminder unless you open it, unless the app uses a syncing service to an online database that can send you a sms or e-mail reminder. So it will be hard to find just what you want right now.

    So you tried ReQall?

I know, it can take a while to transcribe, but not days. Though, it at least has a reminder system. And better that it's incredibly quick making notes as it figures out the due date based off what you said, no need to spend extra time entering stuff like that after.

Simple say, "Meeting on August 7th at 2 p.m. for blah blah blah" or "Buy gift for brother's birthday on Friday." It will set a due date based off that. The gift one will be put in the shopping list because of the word buy.

After it's converted to text, the online account defaults to auto send an e-mail instantly with the voice recording attached. Plus you have a global setting to remind you via sms or e-mail of due items, with a settings for 15 minutes prior to days prior.

Or the options would be to find a to do app that syncs with other calendars or online tasks sites that may have their own reminder system. But not many offer voice recording.

Some reviews say that app just brings up the contact, but doesn't auto dial the number. Kind of expected as I don't see it having a feature to say home, work, mobile, to dial the correct number. Seems mostly usefull to someone that has a huge contact list and this could help find things faster. Or while in the car, find a contact from the main list fast if the person is not in your fac.

Either way, it doesn't work well at all. lol. I had one i used on Installer back on 1.1.4 and it worked somewhat consistently. Oh well, maybe they'll update it and make it work.

Yeah. ReQall had some update I think, don't know what it did.

I just made a note before leaving for work, and now 2 hours later it's still typing. I'm mainly going to use it for long term things. Useless if you need a reminder in the next hour.

I have only tried one that was 99 cents, and it doesn't do much other than record. One problem is the microphone is at the bottom, so it doesn't work as well as my digital audio recorder for doing interviews. If there was a way of fixing that (third-party add-on) and a way of saving these recordings to my computer, it would be so much better.

I've noticed some recorders results sound like whispers on playback, some sound bad, yet some play back loud.

This one seems to get comments on interviews, has a pause button, and so on:

I think it was ReQall that i tried, and i DID take days, and i did say a date to remind me and it STILL didn't figure out the date and WHEN to remind me about it. If ReQall worked the way it SAYS it should, i would be VERY VERY happy..

I would be even happier if there was an app that would take my reminder and stick in inside the ical app, THAT would make me SUPER SUPER happy.. then i wouldnt even NEED a reminder, because i use the calander app ALL THE TIME. I just want a way to not have to type in all the notes.

As for the voice dialer, i have also heard crappy reviews about the one mentioned above.

What would you guys say is the best free voice recorder currently available? I mainly care that it #1 has good voice quality and #2 will let me instantly email the results to someone.

well, i JUST uploaded ReQall again, and am still a tad annoyed. I havent done any voice records yet because i havent had to, but i did a couple of "Buy frozen veggies and yogurt tomorrow" and it put it in my to-do list, but NEVER put it in my shopping list.

Then i figured i should go online and seewhat they offer on their website. It is all a tad confusing to me. I saw that you can download an ical copy of your to do's from ReQall.i THOUGHT that was EXACLY what i wanted, but it didnt put them into the date that they said they were.. it just listed them in the to-do's list.. Still kind of useless and a tad redundant unless you ONLY use ical and only want reqall to do quick notes..

All i want is something to put the notes into my iphone calender.. WHY IS THAT SO HARD??

I'm sure from a developers standpoint it is because you are going to work with existing programming that probably has a lot of requirements.. but really... apple.. DO SOMETHING

Voice DIALING alone is something that NEEDS to be done..

That ReQall reminder finally came through and reminded me. I need to remember to pick something up on the way home. So I started with "Reminder: after work today at 11:00 pm, pick up...." And sure enough, 10:30 my iPhone vibrated and it was an e-mail with the reminder.

Still not sure I'll use it much, as I am too waiting for some great app that does it all. I was so fustrated after getting the iPhone because I wanted a to-do app that can remind me of bills and other things by using alarms and such. But since no apps can't run in the background to be ready to remind you, and they don't seem to communicate with the iPhone apps, it's impossible. And ReQall reminders via e-mail are not that great, the phone vibrates for a second, which is easy to miss, especially when phone calls themselves depending on noise level where you are at can be missed.

There's one to do app that syncs with a couple online calenders or tasks services, like Remember the Milk, which may have reminders. Or maybe a way to do a full loop and sync with iCal, but that won't help much on the go when you can't sync your iPhone to your main computer.

Maybe things will change in Sept when apps can push, but I don't know if that means it can sync with iCal or not on the iPhone.

well, when i was saying iCal, i ACTUALLY meant the iphone calender.

I actually GOT reQall to remind me to do something, but i had to set it up on the computer from their website to send me a text to remind me of it.. THIS SUCKS because now i am using my texts and paying for this reminder when my calender reminds of things for free..

and if i am going to TYPE it in, i will just put it into my calender. I want to voice record directly onto a date on my iphone's calender. That is ALL I WANT.

I think i am just going to get the basic voice recorder for generic notes to self type of thing and keep typing in my reminders in the iphone calender program.

I also am AMAZED that there is no voice dialer for the iphone!! i mean, i LOVE the touch screen, but it takes A LOT to actually dial a number while driving!! its scarey

With ReQall, I set it up with a pretty much unused gmail account I have, which so far is the only e-mail I have set up for my phone. Basically there for ReQall reminders, or when I need to e-mail something just to my iPhone.

For general notes, check out YouNote:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284969305&mt=8

It's a free all in one app that does: Text, Voice, Picture, Draw and Web Capture. Or a combination of all the above. There are no due dates, and only 3 ways to organize. If you do a drawing and need to export it, a simple screen capture will do with hitting hold and home.

i just feel really disappointed because there is the possibility for all this, but it just isnt happening..

I contacted a few companies to ask if anything is in development, but nothing so far.. and ReQalls excuse is that soo many people are signing up that they cant keep up.. NOT A GOOD ENOUGH EXCUSE.. why didnt they KNOW that was going to happen??

I'm considering buying Audio Recorder for $2.99, which so far is the only recorder I can find that gives you a way to get the recordings off the phone and onto your computer. This one does it by emailing the file to you. However, I haven't pulled the trigger yet because the downside of emailing the files is mailbox limitations. Anything longer than 2-3 minutes might be too large for me to email to my Yahoo account.

I considered ReQall as well, because it sounded like it could be really useful, but the reviews didn't thrill me.

I thought reQall was supposed to be able to do this? It doesn't? Another reason I won't bother.

You don't have to do a screen cap. It saves the drawing with your photos. YouNote is pretty nice, I have to say. I'll probably never use the boring old Notes that is pre-installed on the phone ever again!

ETA: Just noticed that there is a new voice recorder in the store that will also email the files to you. It's called Note2Self, $4.99.

NOPE.. reQall does not do ANYTHING with your iphone calender, it CAN use an online calender, which means you have to go to the internet to organize things, but you never actually SEE the entire month.. The screen is basically DUE TODAY, DUE SOON, and OVERDUE. ALmost useless. I would REALLY like to see the entire month

So basically you record yourself and say "Call Company about products on July 29 at 11:30am" . That will turn that into text, and it will evetually pop up in the DUE SOON list with the date and time due.

You can also set it to send you a text message of your reminder, but you cant tell it to send you that message 1 hour before the note is due, which would be a LITTLE more helpful.. and it sends you an email every day of all of your lists

its not a BAD app, but just clunky.. and the transfer to text is SLOW at best.. I was in the store and i had a few ideas for things to pickup while i was in there, I wanted to talk into it so i can keep looking while i was shopping.. it didnt turn into text until i was home with the groceries put away

    Use Evernote.
The recording will be in your iPhone, in the cloud and in your Mac.

There are a few reasons I don't think Evernote is for me:

    1. It doesn't store the notes on your phone. I can't check my notes when I'm offline? Seems silly.

    2. You can't edit your notes.

    3. Not sure I want what may be private info stored on the Web.

    4. I'd have to create yet another account with yet another website.

try "Audio Recorder" by Peerium Inc. It allows you to add audio to existing recordings and to email recordings to yourself or other people.

again, Xtal, talking for the sake of talking.. we already discussed the fact that so far, the existing ones do not have a good, real time reminder system.. It all fails in that aspect..
