Has anyone called AT&T to block data on their line, pop the sim out of the dumbphone, and stick it in the iphone (with data services off in network settings) without being charged?

I've heard that if the phone is already preactivated, as in you got it from someone else and used their old sim card and then stuck in the sim you want to use, AT&T doesnt add the data.

Please no hating/bashing/ranting. I've Been using these things since they first came out and I understand their capabilities with and without data. I just figured if I can get an iPhone 3G for a good price, it would be much better than carrying a razr. :)

A search on here would answer your question. In short - when ATT recognizes that the phone you're using is an iPhone - they will add a data plan for you.

Alright, I just thought I read something about if its already preactivated and blocked on your account, it may work. Oh well, I was just curious.
