As title. Anyone opted to pay Apple for new batteries in their 1st gen AirPods?

With new AirPods a possibility I was wondering. My AirPods are still ok but dont last 4.5h anymore.

Would you pay £98 for 2 new batteries or pay £199 for new AirPods.

If they add new features, which they probably will I would have to see if its worth it.

I am having big issues with my AirPods, they dont even last 1 hour anymore... Really sucks that Apples warranty is 1 year since i feel like i got a faulty product. How ever i do love my AirPods but i don't see replacing batteries as a valid option for me.

I there for plan to get the new AirPods since that will both give me improved battery life, new warranty and also new features. Just getting wireless charging, bluetooth 5 and Hello Siri would justify the extra money.

Edit: Just reset my AirPods in hope that that would solve the issue. Would love to be able to keep using my Airpods and wit on the next big update and not the smaller incremental refresh of AirPods that seems to be coming.

I thought they just gave new AirPods in lieu of battery replacement. Can they actually replace the battery in those tiny things? I was under the impression it cost almost as much as a new set but it seems less than that. Good to know although I think I'll buy the new ones before my batteries are done.

No they do not replace the battery. As far as I know you have to destroy the AirPods to get them open: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/AirPods+Teardown/75578 I'd imagine that they just replace them outright.

Seems replacing the battery in the old ones worth it. Why throw away old AirPods - still top technology.

I’ve ordered new AirPods and will probably replace battery’s and/or just clean and give to someone as is.

As someone else pointed out, you physically can not replace the batteries in them. When you do a "battery replacement" through Apple, they are giving you a new set of AirPods, and likely recycle the old ones.
