Man. I’m a troubleshooting nightmare. I bought some bad ram from Nemix. Trying to find which module it is I open and install a stick at a time. Suddenly the latch won’t close or lock. Has anyone experienced this? How do you fix it?

Hire a technician ? Not all of us have full tummies at the moment .

Nemix brand memory is about as low as you can go , quality wise .

Transintl has quality MP7,1 memory cheaper than any one else . Cheaper than Apple or OWC .

When you say "latch" did you mean the locking mechanism of the individual memory module or the handle to the MP7,1's housing ?

No. The locking mechanism on the top of the MP. The case. It has nothing to do with the ram. I’m at the Mac Store now. I think I see what the problem is but since it’s under Apple Care I think it’s best not to take a pair of pliers and a hammer. Lol.

It’s like the circular catch is soft aluminum. In my anxiousness I must’ve bent it. I don’t know how. I thought I was being pretty careful.

Nemix is sending me two new 32gb modules for one that’s bad. I can live with that.

You might consider giving up weightlifting ...

With workstations and servers , it's OK to use gentle force when necessary to open / close , install / remove something . But never really put your full strength into a job . This is especially true of paper thin Dell and Lenovo chassis . I'm surprised the MP7,1's handle is so fragile .

Ya know, My NcMP is in transit, But I have been mulling this potential issue for awhile. With my current 5,1 cMP, I can troubleshoot with the access side off. It's not necessary for me to button up the machine each time I need to investigate an issue 1387914497.gif

Yes. It's kind of a drag. I thought I'd seen videos of guys with the MP on and the cover off, but maybe not?

All I can say is be patient and careful. Lift it straight up and down and make absolutely sure the little dots are fully lined up before you lift it off or on.

I have NEMIX (12x 32GB R-DIMMs) in my MP7,1 16-core and it's running fine without issues. I paid around $1,500 for the 384 GB of RAM early on in Jan 2020, just before prices started to rise everywhere because the vendors saw a chance to make more brass for themselves.

I'll take one of the R-DIMMs out and take images of front & back later on after completing my initial setups as I only received my MP7,1 yesterday.

It's currently under 'torture' testing using Prime95 and the RAM is being pounded on as well as every thing else. No hw/sw issues have arisen so far after running the 'torture' test for close to 24 hrs.

[EDIT] I found an earlier image of one of my NEMIX 32GB R-DIMMs.... see attached. It's not very detailed but it's all I have at this time.

My first attempt at replacing the casing gave me some weird issue. I thought I had closed it down correctly, even with handle being return to the 'closed' position. When I tried booting the MP7,1 up it would not boot and the white LED was not coming on. I scratch my head and then discovered the casing was not fully seated even the the handle had be closed. I released the handle and gave it a slight nudge down and this time when the handle was turned the casing sealed down as it should, and I then was able to boot successfully.

I've now had the casing off/on several times since the above experience and I take care the when the handle is turned the casing moves down to close up properly.

What disturbs me is that I was able to rotate the handle with the casing being fully seated. I' now take much more care and attention when closing the case down.

I can't see the markings on the ICs . If you could take some clear , close ups of the DRAM chips and the register chip ( the one in the center on one side ) I would be able to be in a better position to judge the quality of the module .
