Has anyone had their dinged or dented iPad replaced?

just curious if apple would turn you down just because of a ding or dent present on the iPad when your initial warrant for a replacement is a defective LCD screen (dead frozen pixels).

I had mine replaced for dust under the screen, and it had a couple of dents and scratches on the back. Ultimately the reason it's broken isn't anything you did it, so they have to honour the warranty I think.

Anyway, from my experience Apple stores seem to be quite happy to replace units to keep the Apple tax paying customer happy!

That's not entirely true. I went in for a scratch on my screen and they denied me. Your warranty does not cover scratches in the screen. Even though its been in the Apple case since day 1. No go.

So it depends on where you live, your issue, and your genius on whether or not they will replace your iPad. Which truly sucks.

I don't think they'd replace it if the aluminiums dented or something...wasn't apples fault it happened. Same goes for scratches.

But my iPad did have a dent/scratch on the aluminium and i had dust everywhere under my screen and got it replaced...now this ones dented even though i have the apple case. I don't care! I like it. My aluminium macbook is scratched/dented and i quite like it. Scratches/dents are like badges of honour for me lol.

If you have a legitimate problem with your iPad, such as dead pixels, dust under the screen, WiFi issues, etc., then Apple will replace your iPad according to the warranty, regardless of minor superficial issues.

However, if issues such as cracked screens, dents, light leaks, etc., are the suspected cause of the dead pixels or dust under the screen, Apple has every right to refuse your warranty.

Yup small dent and for the life of me i can't remember how it got there. I've treated my device pretty gently. The aluminium body seems solid but in reality its really really soft..

I have a very tiny dent, some scratches as well. Drives me crazy. I have some light leakage, not bad, but enough to notice it while I watch netflix at night. Anyone have any problems replacing theirs? I'm afraid they won't be able to see it while at the store with all those lights. How do they test for wifi issues? Mine drops and reconnects sometimes, didn't have this problem at first.

since day one my iPad has always been in the official case. Never touched the floor or been dropped.

I took the iPad out of the case last week to notice the iPad had actually bent near the volume button and the aluminuim that was against the glass sealent had actually bent outwards and come away.

I booked a genius appointment 80 miles away after being told that would be my quickest solution.

Got there to be told that i've either dropped it or something else (with the genius before taking it in the back room agreeing I hadn't dropped it. (in a rather rudish tone)). and it would only be replaced for a silly sum.

I rang up the applecare line immediately and complained. I was placed through to senior management and the CS agreed that the genius shouldn't have spoken to me like that.

He offered a replacement via mail-in regardless of condition. Even out of warranty problems would be replaced (ie. the dent)

Depends. In the UK within 6 months of purchase the seller has to prove that the problem is your fault. So even if you have a smashed glass, then if you had a wifi issue for example then they have to honour it.

Same here. It's been protected, never dropped and treated like a baby. I happened to take the case off and Saw that I have several dents. I was going insane until I received 12 Ipads yesterday for work and of course one of them is a 32g 3G model. I am doing a backup as we speak and will be swapping it out for a new one... :)

anyways, I just got back from my genius appointment and they replaced it due to dead pixel, I didn't mention the dent :D but I did say that the wifi does drop occasionally and never is able to reconnect to some routers.

sadly, this new iPad has a speck of dust under the screen and the other replacement they had in stock had even more specks under the screen! talk about poor quality control!

oh well, I'll just bring it back for an exchange when another cosmetic mishap happens :)

Same with me. Slid off the bed shortly after launch and dinged the corner. Got it replaced quite easily due to dust under the screen.
