I was just looking around InsanelyMac and found a guide on building your own Hackintosh.. just for kicks I researched how much it would cost to build your own Xmac.(The computer everybody wishes Apple would offer) Using Newegg this is what I came up with: Newegg Antec Sonata III case with a 500W PSU - 114.95 Open Box: Intel Bad Axe 2 - 119.99 EVGA-Geoforce 7600GT - 89.99 Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz 'Conroe' - 169.99 A-Data 2GB(2 x 1.0GB)240-pin DDR2 800(PC2 6400)Dual Channel Kit - 42.99 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB OEM - 65.99 Lite-On 20xDVD Burner IDE DH-20A4P-04-OEM - 24.99 Total=$628.89 This is just building one on the cheap side.. for a $110 more I could get a 'Kentsfield' processor. The only limitation I have heard of on this is that they haven't yet figured out how to get the microphone port working, but for most people thats no big deal.
I built my own minitower and if 10.5.2 has its RV670 support I will have unintentionally built one. Intel Bad Axe 2? Ew...
Intel is making a fortune on those chips, sand is $25/ton, I don' t see why everyone doesn't isolate their own silica and then fab their own chips. What's that? Intel deserves to recover R&D costs? And my illustration places no value on my time? Hmm, never thought of either of those...
you can try for yourself, even if it were to fail, you can always get a $629 PC with windows or Linux! but hackintosh topic is not proper in this forum.
