Has anyone picked up the nvidia 8800gt card directly from an apple retail store?

well i believed you u72 before you posted the pics :) Happy Gaming :D

Yeah, kinda echoing the same thing...I drove 2 hours to go to an Apple Store near my city...and I went SPECIFICALLY to look at, and try out a 2.8GHz iMac, and look at the 3.0GHz and 3.2GHz Mac Pro, to see what the speed differences were.

They had about 8 24" iMacs on the floor, and they were all 2.4GHz models. They told me they couldn't let me see one, it was against policy, the only way to buy one was special order. Same thing with the Mac Pro, all they had were the 2.8GHz 8-core, which is the standard config.

I had already seen all these at the camera shop 2 blocks away from me that's now a Mac dealer. I was thinking that the Apple Store would have a model of every current product in their lineup, on display to try out. OH was I wrong!

G'damn waste of gas, frustration in 5pm Friday traffic and 4 hours of my day. I was pissed off.

Little bit of an update on my 8800 ...

Got vista ultimate 64 loaded and it now gives me 5.9 (Top Vista score)
all the way ... :)

Crysis (version 1.0 - gotta upgrade it later) on auto detect gives ALL Highest settings :)
and plays very nicely indeed (My my 2gig ram lets it down though (8gig in customs - hopefully here tomorrow :) )
Fan noise is the same as the 2600 I removed i.e. Very Quiet! :)
all in all a great card if a little overpriced!

gonna install XP pro and try the hacked DX10 drivers on Crysis later
as i've read it runs quite a bit faster than vista...

I Also Mentioned i'd just bought a 2008 Mac Pro when asking for Graphics card Upgrades...
That might help if your phoning around looking for a 8800..

Really? I have the same setup, but with 10 gigs of RAM. Crysis 1.0 detects all the Very High settings but runs like crap in Vista 64. What resolution are you running at? I have to bump it down to Medium settings to make it playable.

On my 20 inch monitor :D (holding out until the update)
what res are you using? I can imagine it getting choppy with a 30" ACD
in high detail settings - i'll post some FPS results when my RAM arrives
which *Should* be today! :)
