Basically what the title says. I turned in my iPhone 11 Pro Max for an iPhone 12 pro max. Paid outright and completed the trade in. My company is going to buy me a 12 pro now. If I returned my 12 Pro Max to Apple what happens with that trade in? Will I keep the money? Would they send me the phone back and take back the money?

Well you're not going to get your original device back.

The most likely scenario would be Apple giving you Apple Store credit for the difference between your old 11 Pro Max trade-in and the returned 12 Pro Max.

Apple gift card was emailed to me for my trade in credits. And the refund would go back to your original payment method. Apple support should be able to help you with how you want to get refunded. Just explain your situation

My first 12 Pro was legitimately defective (mic and speaker went out) so I returned it and got a different one. They refunded my 11 Pro trade value ($450) as an e-gift card to my email. I was fine with it because I had planned on getting an iPad Air.

why not keep both so you can use the 12 pro when you dont want a big phone?

I guess most people don’t subscribe to that idea of needing several phones to accomplish the same things nor wear them as big vs small fashion items.

Pretty much this, they will be giving you apple gift card for the difference. That's what happened when I purchased a MacBook Pro 2020, I traded in my old MacBook Pro, but later I found a defect on my MacBook Pro 2020 and ended up returning for a refund. Because the trade in was credited to my original card. They refunded me the remaining form that card to make it 0 and then the difference apple e-mailed me of the apple store gift card.

They're going to buy you a phone to use or pay you to buy a phone on your personal account? Differences are crucial.
