I have an old iPad mini 2 that I still use and love, especially for reading in bed. I bought a new 9.7 inch iPad Pro and I rarely use it. I would love to think that Apple will continue to offer upgraded models of the smaller iPad design but I don't see any rumors or talk of updates. Are the days of iPad mini numbered?

My feeling is it will be updated, but not spectacularly, and would barely be mentioned at Apple's next keynote. I expect a chip upgrade but none of the features that are in the Pro line. I don't believe Apple will abandon it. This is probably why there aren't any rumors leaking out... not a juicy-enough upgrade to get excited over.

If they go this route, I really hope it gets at least a 256gb option. Now that my iPad Pro and iPhone have that, it's bugging me that my iPad mini doesn't too. Believe it or not I'm getting close to running out of space on my 128gb mini!

No.

Just because there's no rumors does NOT mean there's no product. The mini doesn't get the spotlight because it doesn't have all the latest and greatest - it takes time to engineer a smaller product that equals the large one they just came out with.

They will abandon the mini when they have a reason to. Since it's still selling well, I don't see a reason to cancel it.

Apple is killing off the iPad Mini for 3 Reasons

#1. Price point it is more profitable to move consumer up to the 9.7 Pro which will be positioned not named as the new Mini with a 10.5 and a 12.9 models above it. But at least now all IPAd Models will have Pro features.
#2. 10th Anniversary Edition iPhone Pro simply put this has been known for a While Apple will release a 5.5" 7s model and a 5.5" 7s Plus but the real seller will be the 5.7" iPhone Pro with OLED Display
#3. Marketing Apple has 2 Lines across all their Products Regular and Pro. Aka MacBook and MacBook Pro
IPad and iPad Pro. This pushes consumers to upgrade themselves. Who wants an iPhone when there's an iPhone Pro available. Same thing with the iPad it has existed for years. There are Millions of iPad Owners who want to Upgrade now You have no choice all the Models will be iPad Pros.

Here's some rumors from another site that was posted today. Just remember though, it's just rumors...
http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/ipad...-ipad-mini-5-release-date-march-2017-3593689/

I wouldn't say that those are rumours so much as guesses. The same ones that were going around in September, for that matter. While I don't think that the Mini line is over, I'd actually be surprised by a new one in March, given the lack of solid rumours/leaks. The next Mini may come in October/November. Something new for Apple to put out between the September iPhone launch and Christmas.

Just because Apple makes more profits per model on larger iPads doesn't mean they make more profits on that product overall. Besides, if they're still making a lot of profit on the iPad mini, why would they discontinue it? That won't force everyone who wants a mini to upgrade to a larger iPad. Most of us bought a mini either because it was all we could afford or we just wanted the smaller size, and the larger iPads that are $200+ more can't replace that.

On #2. I didn't finish my sentence and was too sleepy to go back. Basically the 5.7" iPhone Pro is IMO to push customers maybe not each person but a lot into the Pro line of Products. Hey I have an iPhone Pro or iHave and iPad Pro there's no way I am gonna downgrade myself to a non-Pro device kinda like reverse psychology but from a marketing viewpoint.

I love the mini form factor and will stick with it.

Just saw a rumor today of the 2017 iPad releases and that source expects no upgrades until the second half of the year - and then only to the larger sizes. Zero mention of the mini. I sure hope they are wrong as I have no interest in a larger size tablet. If no mini in coming years I'll either go without or buy an android tablet. I like the mini for its convenience when traveling and will not carry around anything bigger.

Which, still, has nothing to do with the mini.

Zero mention doesn't mean no. Cho, the original guy talking about new iPad models, didn't say there was no iPad mini - he didn't say anything about the Mini and people reporting on his report took the absence of the Mini to mean Apple is ditching the Mini. So, basically, we have bloggers jumping to conclusions based on the abcense of talk about a product in a educated guess about other products. See how far removed that is?

I could almost say "gasp! But he didn't mention anything about new MacBooks or a new Apple TV - Apple must be ditching those products too!"

I bought the very first iPad with unlimited data plan from AT&T but have upgraded twice to iPad minis. I currently use the iPad mini 3 with unlimited data. I hope that Apple releases a pro version of the mini so that I can use the apple pen with it. But I get the feeling that Apple is going to phase the mini out. It's just not getting the love it deserves. Too bad. Because for me, the mini is the perfect sized iPad for travel. Perhaps Apple feels it's too close in size to the iphone Plus? I dunno. I don't think it is, but that is what I am hearing. Again, I hope they release a pro version, cause if they don't, I will have to say goodbye to the mini and be forced to buy the 9.7" or the rumored 10.5" bezel-less iPad pro.

Yeah, my mini 3 lags too. Plus the physical home button doesn't work anymore. I had to create a virtual home button in the settings otherwise I wouldn't be able to use it. Not under warranty anymore. So I really hope Apple releases a pro version of the mini. Otherwise I'll have to upgrade in size for the first time since the very first ipad.

Might ditch the iPad if a new mini doesn't come out, the Pro is expensive when you buy a new watch and phone every year
