Wondering if Apple has penciled in a date for the big iPhone-next announcement event ? If the next iPhone is supposedly due out this "Fall" per the iOS5 event, and most saying it will come out end of September, they typical reveal the new phone a few weeks to a month earlier, so I would guess end of August ?

But won't Apple announce a date before the announcement :)

If the rumored timelines are to be believed, it would be assumed that the Fall music event will be the iPhone 5 announcement this year. There is no set date (that we know of) yet, but it has typically always been the first full week of September, usually on a Tuesday. So, September 6th seems like a good guess at this point.

It's like this: if apple mentions anything about the next iPhone coming in a few months, then that will kill off iPhone 4 sales.

Yep they said in press conference it would be released Sept 30th:D

JK Don't get your panties in a bunch

They only stated iOS 5 would be released this fall. They said NOTHING about an iPhone.

So by your calculations, Apple should've sent out the invitations to the press by now.

Nope. Pretty sure that when they make an official statement they will add it on their front page... and MR will be all over it within minutes :D

One thing that is confirmed though is that if Apple doesnt release an iPhone this year they are screwed because Android is coming out with better features. Apple doesnt want to go from leading to following, or at least I hope not.

Apple is running a risk right now. Over a year, no new iPhone and (for all practical purposes) no new one on the horizon. They need to keep the buzz up on the iPhone and this ain't the way to do it. Other phones are coming fast and furious and if all Apple can muster up "sometime" later this year is a warmed over iPhone 4.... Well, they're going to look pretty pathetic.
