Let me tell you a story.
This morning I had the opportunity to thoroughly compare my stereo paired original homepods (on 15.3), with another stereo pair on 11.4... and the pair on 11.4 were consistently louder, fuller, richer and more detailed on every music content played from Apple Music.
Several part of the audio tracks, such some background vocals, where often almost drowned in the mix, and others where extremely subdued, almost lost in the mix, in my pair on 15.3, whereas they were crystal clear on the 11.4 pair.
Volume wise, the decibel meter showed that the stereo pair on 11.4 had a maximum volume level of around 100-110db (accounting variations between tracks, of course), whereas the pair on 15.3 peaked on around 80-90db of maximum volume. Considerable difference.
My theory is that Apple throttled/crippled the OG Homepod via firmware to prevent more overheating issues, but of course I have no definite proof. I do remember my pair sounding better in the past (14.2 and previous firmwares), but until today I havent had the chance to do a comparison.
Thoughts?
