My HDD crashed on me last week. The IT guys here at work got me back up and running today. I started to encode a movie on the settings i have been using all along. Xbox 360, 2 pass encode, turbo first pass, etc etc.

Before the crash i would get around 70-85FPS on the first pass, and about 25-35 on the second pass.

Now i'm getting about 10-15 on the second pass. I'm using x264 as i have always done. With the latest version on HandBreak.

Computer is a MB 2.4 with 2GBs, 10.5.5

You fail to tell us an important piece of information - what the source material is. If it is a High Definition .mkv file, then course you'll get low fps.
